Hotcorner
Sun-Sentinel article a few bits: How could the same front office that dumped Miguel Cabrera, in part, because of a perceived poor influence on Hanley Ramirez have sat Manny at the head of the table? ... Will Manny outproduce Hermida the rest of the way? Probably so, but there's more to this game than raw individual statistics. For starters, who would have played right field? Certainly not Manny, who hasn't played there since his Cleveland days. Josh Willingham? He and Luis Gonzalez might have shared right field, which would have made a weak defense even more suspect. How about the loss of Hermida's left-handed thump in a lineup that already lacks balance? That would have left Mike Jacobs as the only regular threat from that side. Not to mention next season when Manny goes and signs somewhere else it was a complete loss for us. We can win this division with the team we have. Manny or no Manny we will most likely not win it all this year.

rxpro
I don't agree......first of all, they are willing to trade Hermeida for a 2 month rental, that tells you the organization is down on him.... secondly, Manny with his hands tied behind his back will easily double whatever production you will get...... thirdly, if the Sox were willing to pick up his full salary for the 2months then this is a no brainer....the Sox did pick up his salary for the Dodgers... tho I do agree that the prospects the Sox were asking for were too much, but the article is about Manny and I say to have him for 2 months is fine if it costs you nothing
EricWiener
The Marlins wanted a prospect, and Manny, and didn't want to give up an OF prospect, and didn't want to pay Manny... that means that they were looking for a sweetheart of a deal, and when they didn't get it, they didn't do it.
