Posted January 17, 200916 yr Seems to be a big issue for the offseason Imo i'd love a lefty like Griffey or Anderson but Nady would also be a nice pickup if you choose other explain who and if he's a FA or thow we would aquire him.
January 17, 200916 yr Garrett Anderson, but I wouldn't mind Andruw Jones. Based on the fact that Jones would likely cost the minimum...he's intriguing.
January 17, 200916 yr If I could pick any one of those guys? Nady by a mile. However, I think Garret Anderson is a lot more affordable and likely for the Marlins to actually get a hold of than any of those others. At this point I would pay Andruw Jones to stay away from the Marlins...

January 17, 200916 yr What would you think if Cody Ross had been a free agent this year and some team had given him a two-year contract for $30 million. That's exactly what the Dodgers did for Andruw Jones last year because his numbers were comparable (although worse) than Ross's numbers last season ... despite the fact that he had already been in steady decline for a couple years prior to that. Andruw Jones is washed up. Might as well sign Sammy Sosa - we saw him last night at the Hard Rock Cafe at the Billy Joel concert.
January 17, 200916 yr Really don't understand the love for Nady. He is a RH bat who is significantly better against LHP than RHP. He will cost just as much $$ as Griffey will And he cost us good prospects aswell. He'd cost the most and arguably wouldn't even give us top production. Taking cost, offensive production and defensive production, our best options are basically Daryle Ward (0.7-1m) Eric Hinske (1-2m) Cliff Floyd (2-3m) Garrett Anderson (2-3m) Luis Gonzalez (~2m, wouldn't be surprised if he just retires) The guys who will cost multi-millions do not really give us any other benefits than the guys who won't. The only guy with high .800 OPS upside v.s. RHP is Griffey (3-4m), and that all depends if we can fit him into our budget considering there's also things like signing Pudge and another starter. Ward is likely our best bet, we should be able to get him for sub-1m and he's always good for an upper-.700 OPS against RHP, and plays ok defense in rf/lf/1b. Also depends on how much Hinske would cost, but I think he'll be more around 2m. He doesn't have the injury issues that come with Anderson and Floyd. We do not need another Aaron Boone situation. And Gonzo plays bat-sh*t bad defense.
January 17, 200916 yr As far as I'm concerned, "None Of The Above" is the correct answer. And you can cross off the remainder of Nny's list as well. No disrespect meant. I can't imagine any of those guys in a Marlins uni in 2009 for one reason or another, not when you have at least five guys at or near minimum wage already in the organization (some of whom have been in Jupiter since after Christmas or playing every day in the winter leagues) ready to battle it out for the fourth outfielder spot. Reserve outfielder is not the position the team needs to *go* outside to fill and I think we're all more or less in agreement where money should be spent if the organization decides to bring in a player or two from the outside.

January 17, 200916 yr I'd prefer Griffey or Anderson, mainly because they're lefties, but Andruw Jones at the minumum would be just fine with me as well. Then again, if none are taken, I'm just fine with Brett Carroll, Scott Cousins, or John Raynor.
January 17, 200916 yr All this depends on the money... I voted for Jones cause of the rumored money he would take which is pretty much nothing, but I would like Anderson or Griffey... All depends on the different prices.. Wouldnt mind anyone of those guys to be honest

All depends on the different prices.. Wouldnt mind anyone of those guys to be honest I'll agree here. My preference between Anderson and Griffey is really none, I'm completely agnostic on this. Whoever is the cheaper of the two, welcome aboard. And if Jones is willing to sign for under a million, I think he's worth that kind of chance. If he blows up like last year, kuddos to the FO for actually spending a dime to capitilize and at least they tried. I'd be fine with Carroll/Cousins/Raynor if none are acquired or if it's AJ and he fails miserably.

But i wouldnt be against any of the othe guys.
January 17, 200916 yr I went with Garrett Anderson but I really feel our best option as 4th Outfielder is Cody. He is just outstanding in that role. I would put Cousins or Raynor in our Outfield picture. Even Morrison!
January 17, 200916 yr As much as I would have liked him on this team, it's time to forget about Anderson. It isn't happening. My suspicions were confirmed: he's not at the point where he's willing to accept a bench/platoon role, especially after coming off a year like he just had. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...8&fext=.jsp
January 17, 200916 yr Fourth outfielder should not be a high priority. We got rid of the guy with the bad back, so hopefully the outfield stays relatively healthy. Granted, I don't think we have a particularly great outfield with Hermida and Ross, and who knows what Maybin will bring in his first year.
January 19, 200916 yr I hope Jay Gibbons rakes spring training and beats out Gaby for a spot. I don't want to commit money to an outfielder until this team brings in a 6th SP and additional catcher support. C - Baker / Someone Else 1B - Cantu / Gibbons / Helms 2B - Uggla / Bonifacio / Amezaga SS - Hanley / Amezaga / Bonifacio 3B - McPherson / Cantu / Helms LF - Hermida / Gibbons / Bonifacio CF - Maybin / Ross / Amezaga RF - Ross / Gibbons / Bonifacio AAA - Rabelo, G. Sanchez, Coghlan, J. Miller, Carroll, Raynor That would be perfect. It's entrusting a lot of PA to McPherson and Gibbons, but if each of them can hit in the upper 700 OPS at a minimum, we're looking pretty damn good. Gibbons did rake pretty hard in AAA and is good in winter ball. And we always have those AAA options as fallbacks.

The way the organization is talking about Gaby, he'd have to be really mediocre in Spring Training to go back to the minors. He's the leading candidate at 1B, from the sounds of it. I, personally, hope the answer isn't Jay Gibbons...but I understand what you're saying.
