We got Smolinski from the Nats in the Olsen deal. He was the Nationals 2nd round pick in 2007 (70th overall). He had a knee injury, missed half of last year, and was slated to miss half of this year. He was originally anticipated back in June, so this is great news as he'll get an extra 70-100 PA this season now. He should be in Greensboro all year. He is somewhere in our top 12-18 overall prospects depending on who you talk to, and has a good shot at ending up in the 8-12 range by the end of this season. His overall grade is based on where he ends up position wise. He was originally drafted as a SS, that did not work last year in the Nats system, so the big question was where were the Marlins going to try him out at? 2B, 3B, and LF were all on the table.

He started at 2B his first game back. Totally Awesome. He projects to be kind of like Coghlan. Really good contact hitter with .300 potential and gap power. That's one hell of a 2B if it works out, that's a meh outfielder. Hopefully this position sticks and we have something in 3 years.

Sounds good. It would be nice to have something actually look promising from the trade.

This is sort of OT, but with you calling him a "meh" outfielder, it just reminds me of the fact that we've got Chris Coghlan in LF now where his bat will be at best average for the position. I'm happy for the offense he's giving us, but it's so easy to come by in LF that we really shouldn't be using a 2B bat there.
