I'm sick and tired of this team coming up empty with a runner at third and less than two outs. Someone needs to be fired.

Also, I'm sick and tired of being bored to death with these low scoring games. These guys did a decent job of scoring last year with roughly the same players. It's time to ditch Boner and stick Hanley back at leadoff.

Yeah Pres really hasen't helped hitters at all, but how many decent hitting coachs are available?

I can't remember too many fire Jim Presley threads when we had a mad offense and the best power hitting infield of all time. Maybe its just that we've gotten rid of too many good hitters?

Yeah, Jacobs and Hammer were both "great."

I think Uggla and Bonifacio are the main players that are hurting us offensively. Boni just is not that great and Uggla strikes out and pops up way too much. If Boni was good (not great) and Uggla was a .270 hitter I think things would be different. Not sure if the blame should be on Pres though but I do think that if things are not working offensively for us then a change needs to be made. There are way too many times these players look lost during situations that only require getting a ground ball, fly ball etc. They just want to hit a homer every.single.time.

Its not the just the hitters the hitting coach is suppose to help with things that Pres has not like cutting the strikeouts, hitting the ball the other way, sacrificing, and most importantly to look confident and be smart in the batters box.

Not a big fan of Presley and wouldn't mind to see him gone

The offense has been bad since the second half of last year.

We could always give Barry Bonds a call and see if he wants a job as a coach...

They don't have to be great. They were both "good" players who had their strengths. Hammer is an OPS machine and has been more than Hermida could ever dream of (out OPSing by about a hundred points this year and under adverse playing time conditions). Jacobs had a hugely powerful bat and was killer at racking up RBI.

It's not that these players we have given up were great- we just replaced them with straight out lousy. And thats no way to keep an offense going. When you take away three effective pieces of last years offense (including Gonzo) it has a cumulative effect on every part of the lineup.

You can't expect to be a better team than last year when all you do is subtract people. You can fire Jim Presley all you want, but it still won't bring us the actual talent we are lacking. And maybe that actual talent is just one more entirely solid offensive piece, not even an allstar, but that's what is needed.

I think his expertise would be better served by being a trainer. :mischief

Firing Jim is not going to solve anything. Our hitters all well (90%) of them hit the same way and their all opening up trying to get that homerun which turns into a lot K's...

Its not his fault, i think this lineup is going to be really good, even boni looks better in the no. 2 hole which I never thought I would say that but he has SO FAR

I know pres doesn't exactly alsways preach the right things but for the most part our hitters aren't contanct hitters who go the other way. He can only work with what he's given.

That's precisely why losing the offensive talent we did has hurt us so much. Everyone on this team now feels the need to get the big hit. And starting the lineup with an .OBP void is a terrible way to influence that.

You realize that this is Pressley's hitting philosophy showing itself? He's the one who encourages them to swing aggressively and swing often.

And for you guys who say that firing him will do nothing positive - will it hurt anything? No. But its stupid not to try and improve.

Which is funny, because we don't actually have to have this void at the top of the order if we put guys there who are more suited to getting on base (Baker or Hermida). Fredi is the one killing the team with that move.

Hammer is decent when he is healthy (which is basically never), and when Jake wasn't hitting a home run, he was doing absoultuely nothing. I don't miss them at all.

What's Bill Robinson doing these days?

Anyone have his number on the speed dial?

Unlikely; he is deceased.

That never stopped Ms. Cleo.

Dead Bill Robinson >>> Alive Jim Pressley

Never going to happen nor should it happen. He's way too much of a power/RBI threat.

I've bee saying it for awhile. Too many Strikeouts and wait on the big hit, much like his career. This hit or miss offense drives me crazy, I hate to see strikeouts. Today Cantu just had to put the ball in play somewhere, anywhere and he K's big time, I just don't think Presley is up to the task. I've also said I can't believe his gotten this big a pass considering all of the Fire Bill Robinson threads. Here's an idea hire Robinson to be hitting coach FRANK Robinson!

Well considering we have a player or two in our lineup that have the same average and OBP but without the homers, I miss the homers.
