When Would You Use Lindstrom?

Me: Games with a 1 or 2 run deficit

In the role Kiko Calero was being, wrongly, used/wasted in.

^that

i picked games win a 3+ run lead in the 6th, 7th, or 8th

Third Base.

Wasn't it not too long ago you were defending Bonifacio? And now apparently you want him replaced by Lindstrom

Lindstroms been fine, he's pitched to situations. I didn't like that Phillies game he melted down in, but he was back from injury too soon and wasn't ready.

I wish he'd keep his ERA down, but if he's not losing it for us, he's fine.

He's 10x better then Kevin Gregg regardless of how he gives us a heart attack.

Matt Lindstrom: I don't Drink, I don't Dip, I don't Smoke, and I don't do Cardiologists and Emergency Rooms any favors. Join me in making this an Elderly Free South Floria.

1. There's no such thing as pitching to situations.

2. He's not 10x better than Kevin Gregg. He's not better than Kevin Gregg, at all, actually.

'pitches to the situation' makes me want to punch babies.

Wow, I'm stunned the overwhlming majority still wants him protecting leads.

i don't think he's been better than gregg. lindstrom has been shaky this season as gregg was shaky last season. i would take the 07 gregg over this season's lindstrom.

but it doesn't matter what we think. bonifacio will continue to play at 3rd and lindstrom will continue to be the closer and nunez will continue to come in to get him out of jams.

I chose 3+ run in 6th, 7th or 8th... I have no confidence in Lindstrom when he comes in to pitch a save situation...

Keep Leo in 8th inning slot, and get a proven experienced closer in the 9th inning... Not a cheap option or a reclaimation project, but a true closer that makes teams say "We don't score in the 8th, we're done"...

Sorry, I was dreaming for a second that the FO would go out and spend on a big name closer

lol. but really, when is the last time we had a high profile closer. since i've been a fan all the ones i remember have been reclamation projects.

Spending money on a closer is pretty dumb, actually.

Keep him at closer. I really don't feel we have a real closer, and considering Lindstrom has gotten the saves and has come in and yes he has gotten the job done, no matter how nasty it looks. A win is a win, and Lindstrom may not do it the best and cleanest, but overall he puts helps give us the W. Lindstrom just needs control over his slider, that will help make that fastball look even better, he hasn't had great control of his slider recently, I believe with more work he will gain more confidence in the role of closer and will settle in.

Thank God, somebody said it!

I voted for closer. The reason being that generally they are not required to pitch quite as often as some of the other bullpen roles, such as those currently held by Nunez, Meyer and Calero before he hit the DL. Those 3 guys are all performing far better than Lindstrom this year and if Lindy was in one of their roles, I firmly believe deficits would of increased or leads late in the game would of been lost, thus eliminating the opportunity of a save situation and hence one of the better relievers would not be able to contribute when it matters most.

Very good point, i never really thought of it this way.

Give Lindstrom a break and put Nunez at closer for a while. If that doesn't work out, give the role back to Lindstrom and take it from there.

Third Base.

No, I was saying the amount of hate Bonifacio received was undeserved. Please pay attention.

Would anyone be in favor of alternating Leo and Matt in the closer role and set up role.

This might work and it saves both of there arms as Meyer and we he gets back Kiko can also be used in the set up role.

I would hope that performance would be the driver here and given that among the regular relievers he has the highest WHIP and OPS allowed and even the highest ERA I would think people would be apprehensive about having him protect leads. I guess not.
