Old news.

Doesn't make it any less ridiculous though

Guns should be for personal protection only - no exceptions. No stupid 'collections' and for no hunting purposes. We don't need to go out and kill our own food in this country. With that said, you don't need a submachine gun to protect yourself. There's no reason why there should be an Uzi anywhere legally in this country...

Here's how I see it...we don't live in 1776 anymore. I don't think it should be a right to bear arms . It should be a privilege. Too many stupid people running around with guns these days.

I disagree. We all need guns to protect ourselves from the government and if you think that sounds ridiculous then maybe you should read history and learn the reason why we "have a right to bear arms".

Actually today is becoming more and more like 1776.

Have you quartered any troops in time of peace lately? If so, I'm telling on you!

It's people like you that we need to keep guns away from. Buncha crazies.

Yes, I'm crazy for being a "Constitutionalist". Just because you probably weren't born here and you have no understanding of US History states you are the crazy one.

"There are rights which it is useless to surrender to the government and which governments have yet always been found to invade. These are the rights of thinking and publishing our thoughts by speaking or writing; the right of free commerce; the right of personal freedom. There are instruments for administering the government so peculiarly trustworthy that we should never leave the legislature at liberty to change them. The new Constitution has secured these in the executive and legislative department, but not in the judiciary. It should have established trials by the people themselves, that is to say, by jury. There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army." --Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

-Thomas Jefferson

I'm crazy for believing in the Constitution and also what Thomas Jefferson believes in. Just because I want to own a gun and be free doesn't mean I will shoot people.

God, people are so weak minded.

A right can never be taken away, but a privilege can be taken away. With that said, not everyone can own guns so it isn't a right.

Way to go around making unjustified assumptions about where I was born or how educated I am on this history of the United States. I'm actually a third generation American and I know a lot about the country's history. That doesn't mean I have to agree with everything written in a document created over 220 years ago. The constitution is one of the most brilliantly designed works in world history, but it is my opinion that there are some amendments to it that are outdated, such as the second and third.

But I forgot you're the guy who thinks Obama is bringing back slavery in the year 2012. I think you belong in a mental hospital, but at least you're admitting your own craziness.

Umm, what the f*** is wrong with you? You assume everything, and then add an even dumber assumption to it. What does it matter where he was born? I know it's hard to swallow the fact that a 'stupid immigrant' could know more about America than people that live in this country, but it's possible and interestingly enough, not improbable. i mean, really, why are you discussing politics in a message board dedicated to a team based in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country? Does it make you feel smart to discuss politics with a bunch of 'stupid mexicans?'

You quote Thomas Jefferson like his word is God. Look buddy, the opinion of a man who owned slaves and had affairs with them has lost a bit of its value in a society that has no slaves and looks down at affairs. While I don't agree that the right (more like a privilege) to bear arms is outdated, you go around acting like everything the constitution says is correct and perfect. Ever heard of Amendments? I'm sure you have, seeing as you're defending one. You see, these are made by people who see something WRONG (yes, wrong) with the constitution and seek to change it.

I agree that one of the biggest reasons the 2nd amendment was written was to keep citizens as a fourth "check and balance." Unfortunately an armed populace probably wouldn't be able to do much against a sophisticated modern military.

Kid learning how to fire a machine gun?

When I was 8 I was playing with my gerbels and gameboy.

The father is a True idiot, doesnt even seem that upset.

So owning a gun is a right, but healthcare is not, hmmmm

No. I was trying to educate you on the reason our Constitution allowed us "to bear arms". It is so that the government will not become too powerful.....the same reason Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, and JFK all tried to rid us of a Centralized Bank and the Federal Reserve so that the Government or a separate corporate will never control us....oops too late!

You are too funny. You go on and continue to worship a pedafile Michael Jackson and I'll let Thomas Jefferson be my mentor.

You don't change the Constitution AT ALL. It's like changing the Bible. It's the reason our country is great. Wow....This country is sooooo f'd it's not even funny.

That's a terrible comparison. You are talking about a right to purchase and own somethng compared to free access to a service. You have the right to purchase all the healthcare insurance your heart desires.

Are you an idiot? Who says I worship Michael Jackson? Last time I checked it was YOU who read books published by MAINSTREAM conservative voices. I mean really, Glenn Beck? You swallow up what he says and spew it here like you're some sort of intellectual with a mind of his own. Stop lying to yourself.

Listen, the Constitution was changed to make room for your precious second amendment. Why do you think they call it an amendment? It was AMENDED. Here, since you love to use definitions from Wikipedia, I'll hit you with one from an actual respectable source:

a⋅mend  /əˈmɛnd/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [uh-mend] Show IPA Use amend in a Sentence –verb (used with object) 1. to alter, modify, rephrase, or add to or subtract from (a motion, bill, constitution, etc.) by formal procedure: Congress may amend the proposed tax bill. 2. to change for the better; improve: to amend one's ways. 3. to remove or correct faults in; rectify.

And I laugh at your Bible comment. Did you know that the Earth is not flat? Did you know that evolution exists? The Bible isn't always right. In fact, it's impossible to prove that it's right but very possible to prove that it's wrong.

It's people like you that give conservatives like me a bad rep. You don't think.

That's not entirely true.

I don't know what point you are attempting to make with this but the second amendment is integrated into the Bill of Rights. While the Constitution was indeed "modified," the Bill of Rights was compulsory because of outrage expressed by the anti-Federalists during the initial radification.

I'm trying to prove to WMM that just because something is in the Constitution doesn't make it right or unquestionable, because the paper has been changed when necessary. The fact is, it was a modification to the same Constitution that WMM seems to consider so holy. If it was wrong before, there's no way one can argue that it'll never be wrong again.

You don't change the Constitution AT ALL. It's like changing the Bible.

The bible's been changed plenty over the years...

ok...so i wanna know...how many people did thomas jefferson shoot in his lifetime?

IMO, Owning a gun is a right shared by hundreds of thousands in this country

having a gun is a privelage shared by millions in this country

when i watch the news, when a bad guy is killed a guy, 99% of the time, its by a professional trained to use a gun correctly, not joe shmoe from idaho protecting his family when the big bad bad wolf blows down his door and tries to rob him

everyone else that is killed by a gun is from someone who abuses the privelage of having a gun in some form or another...therefore...its proven shown time and time and time again...and if you need proof, just watch the local news...that we as americans, cannot, nor deserve the privelage of having a gun and are severely abusing the right to own a gun

now...not to say that ownership of a gun should be illegal, no no no...but there should be every test that can be thrown at a person in order to have that right to own a gun...so that getting this license is a pain in the ass...that if you really want a gun...really, really, really want it...then you can pass a psych evaluation to make sure you a fit enough to not run around a school or campus or church or abortion clinic with it and kill everyone you see

but alas...this law will never change until that last person has that last cap in their ass and there is no one left to shoot...so i just guess ill shake my head and nod with everything obama says like certain members accuse me of

Your data is skewed. According to the New York Times (many people's favorite newspaper), 70% of violent acts AREN'T committed with a gun!

Even JFK and Ghandi said it's ok to own a gun FOR YOUR PROTECTION! It should be any human's right to protect themselves and their family, as long as a background check states they are not a criminal./ .

How is health care a right?

Do you have a right to a physician's time? Do you have a right to the property of other people?

Health care is a service. If health care were a right, it would mean that physicians (and other health care professionals) were obliged to provide their labor without their own consent.

Just like education, it is believed to be a right in some countries. Part of the Hippocratic Oath too to treat patients regardless of the circumstances.
