Posted August 16, 200915 yr +7 +/- now. Tied for 7th among major league right fielders. But his UZR -7.6. Which is well below average. I haven't been around these fielding stats long enough to trust them 100% yet. There was a point where Nny made a post about Cody Ross's worth because of his great defense according to his +/-. About 3 weeks later his +/- dropped considerably under 0 and his point was invalid after just 3 weeks. I'm starting to get really skeptical over a stat that can rate a guy one the best Cf in the game one week, and three weeks later rate him below average. But +/- has been known to be the best stat to evaluate fielders, and Hermida's pretty damn good according to it this season. What I've seen with my own eyes, UZR and +/- has got me really confused right now. Is One Speed actually a good right fielder now?
August 16, 200915 yr He's not really a bad fielder he's pretty average but the fact that he doesn't get to some bloopers hit between him and Uggla and he looks pretty slow out in right fielder compared to Brett Carroll(who is an outstanding fielder) has people thinking he is terrible. Plus the fact that when he dives he pretty much always misses the ball but still keeps in in front of him. Herm's defense has been pretty good over the last month or two and to know that he is the 7th best among all major league right fielders is good to know. The thing is now he's not really producing offensivly besides getting on base which is why he was moved down to the 8 spot. Also, I'm guessing he's ranked behind guys like Ichiro, Markakis, Winn, J. Upton or basically guys that could be playing Center Field on most Major League teams.
August 16, 200915 yr That's good to know. A Hermida/Carrol Platoon helps us out offensively and defensively. Of course, when Carrol comes back up.
