Posted August 19, 200915 yr A run not seen in the NL for 80 years. 8-18 11/35 8-16 17/38 8-16 13/40 8-14 10/29 8-13 11/35 8-12 13/39 8-11 14/43 8-10 10/31 8-9 19/46 8-8 10/33 8-7 10/37 8-6 11/37 8-5 10/36 8-4 11/35 Team average for 14 games, 170 for 551: .309, average 12 hits/game. Hits by player: 29 Ramirez 25 Coghlan 19 Ross 18 Uggla 16 Cantu 12 Baker 11 Hermida 10 Johnson, N 9 Bonifacio 7 Paulino 6 Helms 2 Gload 2 Volstad 2 Johnson, J 1 Nolasco 1 Wood Amazing production by Ramirez and Coghlan, great production up and down the line-up, even the pitchers did their bit. The combined catching with 19 ranks 3rd with Ross.
August 19, 200915 yr Nice job breaking it down! Hanley is no surprise, but Coghlan has been terrific during this stretch.
August 19, 200915 yr Author According to Craig's pre-game, Coghlan asks an absolute ton of questions. Some people apparently get a little annoyed, but not Nick Johnson, he's happy to answer them all. Funny how Cogs has gotten incredibly hot since Nick arrived August 1st. Cogs has 11 more hits in August than he had in all of July. He's hitting .408 in August. Season BA up 35 points, OBP up 30 points, SLG up 50 points. He's walked 7 times versus 5 in July. His increased patience (it was already pretty good) is getting him better pitches to hit and he's hitting them hard. Funny how this 10+ hits per game thing got going 3 days after Nick arrived. What's even funnier was that Minervini bothered to interview Presley. As if the guy who had been mostly failing for 105 games (at that point) has a clue. Not that correlation equals causation, but Minervini should have been interviewing Johnson, who's been here for 17 games and has racked up .308/.500/.462/.962 in the 13 games he's played and quite obviously has had a positive effect on the entire team of hitters. A veteran who knows what he's doing leading by example. And happy to answer rookie questions, to boot. Gotta love it.
August 19, 200915 yr when the offense cools down its gonna feel so weird. "WHAT THE f*** WE CANT GET EVEN 8 HITS TONIGHT? SOMETHINGS WRONG"
August 19, 200915 yr Author It'll cool down at some point, but as long as they keep finding a way to win all will be well. Nick Johnson for batting coach in '12! :lol Their recent 18-8 combined with the initial 11-1 (6 weeks out of 4 1/2 months) accounts for almost half of the wins. Playing at least .600 ball the rest of the way is crucial, they still have a few games to make up.
August 19, 200915 yr According to Craig's pre-game, Coghlan asks an absolute ton of questions. Some people apparently get a little annoyed, but not Nick Johnson, he's happy to answer them all. Love to see effort and commitment like that especially when its paying off.

Gotta love it. Agreed. And I'm not big on the intangibles stuff but when you're in the dugout watching Nick Johnson go up to the plate and put up quality at-bats & get on base constantly... it's gotta be a little contagious. Plate discipline was always one of Coghlan's strong points coming up through the minors it seems, so Nick can only help that. But yeah this stretch is awfully fun. What's great is that everyone's been contributing on offense. Ride those hot bats for as long as possible.
August 19, 200915 yr I hope this streak continues.... Honestly, I was surprised they kept it going through the double header against the Rockies. And sure, Ramirez and Coghlan have been amazing these past 2 weeks.
August 19, 200915 yr What is missed in all this is that Hermida has been just as hot over the last 2 weeks as Coghlan.
August 19, 200915 yr What is missed in all this is that Hermida has been just as hot over the last 2 weeks as Coghlan. Hermida's batting average has gone up .003 points since August 1st, his OBP has gone up .006, his slugging % up .003, and his OPS up .009 Coghlan's batting average has gone up .030 points since August 1st, his OBP has gone up .024, slugging % up .043, and his OPS up .067 May I remind you that Coghlan and Hermida had very similar numbers on August 1st. No comparison imo.
August 19, 200915 yr Last 14 days: Coghlan: .370/.443/.537 Hermida: .345/.474/.517 It is easier for Coghlan to impact his overall stats at this point as 25% of his PAs have come thus far in August whereas only 11% of Hermida's have.
