Posted October 1, 200915 yr SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP)—Police in Puerto Rico say a Florida Marlins minor leaguer has been shot several times in a drive-by attack. Police spokeswoman Maria Rivera says 21-year-old shortstop Osvaldo Martinez was wounded while driving Wednesday through the city of Carolina, just east of the Caribbean island’s capital, San Juan. Police officer Wanda Abdalah later said that the victim was recuperating from surgery and is stable. Marlins spokesman Matt Roebuck said in a statement that the team is aware of the shooting and they are trying to get more information. Martinez was signed by the Marlins in 2006 and plays for Class A Jupiter. He played in 130 games this season, batting .254 with 45 RBIs. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-marlins-prospectshot&prov=ap&type=lgns No idea who this guy is, I'd never even heard of him! :| Hope he recovers...
October 1, 200915 yr 11th round drft pick of 2 years ago. Don't worry I had never heard of him til I read it in the newspaper today. Kinda weird because he was shot in the street in broad daylight by a passing vehicle. Kinda like someone was looking for him
October 1, 200915 yr That sucks. Hope he recovers. It doesn't matter how good a prospect he is, he is still a Fish and a person.
October 1, 200915 yr Shootings in that sector are not uncommon, even in daylight. That said – Martinez had a brother who was murdered 3 years ago, according to this report. Could be a coincidence, but I lean more towards him being targeted. We'll see.
October 1, 200915 yr I wanted to update that he has been released from the Hospital Today...Interesting point that Ed Rodriguez says he is the highest rated SS prospect in the Marlin's organization right now and he was being considered for a ST invite with the parent team...Go figure!
October 2, 200915 yr I saw him with Jupiter this past season, he looked good on defense, just my observation for a couple of games no stats to back it up. If I were him I would just stay in the US in the off-season from now on.
October 3, 200915 yr Man, I hope he's doing alright. I've heard his name here and there but don't really know of him.
