September 8, 201014 yr http://30for30.espn....ching-hell.html Its not on until sometime next year. Is the picture on that page misleading or did Alou actually have no chance to catch the ball? Or is that after Bartman touched it? Man, I so wanna get in the Delorean and go back 6 years. It was amazing reading the NLCS threads and the Bartman threads. I also noticed that 99% of the people posting in those threads aren't here anymore and weren't anyone that's here now. Not even the mods. What gives? Is this forum like ER? I think the only member I recognized was the guy with the FSU helmet avatar. So I guess he's like Keri Weaver(the only character to be in every season of ER). And I'm the same age as Steve Bartman. Interesting. There's also a 30 for 30 on UM about the football team's rise and dominance in the 80's: http://30for30.espn....film/the-u.html Yes i agree, im one of the few that is still around.. When i had a different name
September 30, 201014 yr ESPN took it down from it's 30 for 30 site and replaced it with a story on the Red Sox championship run. Guess this documentary wasn't meant to be.

The 2004 Red Sox should still be a great documentary, but still... I really liked "Straight Outta L.A." and "The Two Escobars" 30:30's.
October 1, 201014 yr ESPN took it down from it's 30 for 30 site and replaced it with a story on the Red Sox championship run. Guess this documentary wasn't meant to be. Actually that one's been planned for a while. It looks like the Bartman one is being replaced with "Fernando Nation" about Valenzuela and Fernandomania. BTW, how many documentaries about the 2004 Red Sox do we need? I can think of 4 or 5 that I've seen in the last 6 years.
October 1, 201014 yr Actually Rab the Fernando Valenzuela one has been planned for well over a month. The Bartman article on the site wasn't taken down until about a week ago or less. I haven't seen the Red Sox Nation mention until just recently, and only recently did it pop up on the site. Back on topic, I was really looking forward to seeing a Steve Bartman documentary. Even if he wasn't going to be interviewed and if it would focus mostly on the Cubs, I still think it's a key part of Marlins history and would bring back some memories from that series for me and many other Marlins fans who would've watched it.

The schedule ESPN released in July (http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2010/07/espn-films-announces-‘30-for-30’-fall-schedule/) had the Red Sox one but not the Valenzuela one. According to this link from ESPN (http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2010/09/espn-films-adds-fernando-nation-to-%E2%80%9830-for-30%E2%80%99-schedule-additional-schedule-change-for-pony-excess-and-the-best-that-never-was/) they just added the Valenzuela film yesterday and specifically mentions that it's replacing Catching Hell. On topic, that last link also states that the Bartman film will be shown in 2011, so at least we do know we'll get to see it eventually.

Wow, it will be going on 2 years then that I've been waiting to see this documentary... ESPN is lame. On the plus side, the Valenzuela one sounds interesting. '04 Red Sox, not so much.
October 1, 201014 yr Author WTF? I'm packing my granades and rocket launchers and getting onthe next flight to Bristol and going Rambo on ESPN HQ!:devil I'm sure it eventually be shown one way or the other. EDIT: I didn't see that it was still gonna be aired when I was typing the above. I'm still mad. Just not quite as much. @Rabbethan: How'd you find that ESPN Mediazone site? Are you a sports journalist?
October 1, 201014 yr Author No, I just googled it. Pow. What did you Google specifically? I did steve bartman catching hell and steve bartman 30 for 30. For the latter, I got that site but not that page. Did you go down a few pages? I only went 2.

October 21, 201014 yr Thought this was supposed to air soon but apparently has been pushed back to sometime in 2011. damn.
October 22, 201014 yr Author I did a little more Googling and found this: http://benmaller.com...d-back-to-2011/ So it was the guy that made it who pushed it back. BTW, Yesterday was the 7th anniversary of that game. I'm surprised there isn't a 30 for 30 about the Marlins' '03 championship. Somebody here must be a filmmaker, amateur or otherwise. Maybe we could make it a site project. Its not like its that hard to do. You just take some game footage and some interviews, mix them together just right, add a narrator and some mood music and you've got a documentary. What would be good title?

Or you could just get the DVD the Marlins put out about it in '04. They were giving them away like crazy after they tried selling them. And, just so you know, there is also one for the '97 season. Along with a CD from Gloria Estafan, the song she sang at the stadium celebration after the parades.
October 22, 201014 yr Author I already have the DVD. I guess it is pretty much the same as a 30 for 30 documentary..
October 25, 201014 yr Interesting that this goes from a doc about Bartman, the Cubs and the 03 NLCS to a doc about Bartman and Buckner. Something tells me in the end, with ESPN involved and a Sox fan making it, the focus will be on Buckner. Kind of dissapointing if not unexpected.
October 27, 201014 yr One can never tell whether Alou could have made the catch, if you look back at that post-season the Marlins got lucky earlier in the NLDS when Cruz the gold-glover missed a sure out in game 3 to keep the Marlins alive. True dat.
October 28, 201014 yr Author One can never tell whether Alou could have made the catch, if you look back at that post-season the Marlins got lucky earlier in the NLDS when Cruz the gold-glover missed a sure out in game 3 to keep the Marlins alive. True dat. I remember that. In right field in the 8th or 9th inning. It was a pop fly and it hit his glove. We were dead to rights and I was praying for a break and there it was. BTW, why is it called the division series. It makes no sense that the first round is called that. Just call it the first round.

The NFL does the same thing, they call it the Wild Card Playoffs and then the Divisional Playoffs, which makes just as much sense. The only leagues that use "round" are the ones with far too many teams in the playoffs.
October 29, 201014 yr Considering that 3 of the 4 teams in each 1st round are division winners, calling it a "divisional play-off" makes about as much sense as can be made of it.
