January 20, 201015 yr Some of the more creative/interesting/witty slogans got flushed out over the rounds. "Breaking new ground" is terribly generic.
January 20, 201015 yr Guys, I would leave this alone. It's been a sensitive issue in the past.  When "Who the hell are these guys" or something almost won in 06?
January 20, 201015 yr All the remaining slogans don't stand out imo. At least "Billed for Success" and "The Future is Now" made sense for this season. Breaking New Ground doesn't even belong in the discussion until 2012Â Other nominations that caught my eye early on: Sink or Swim, End of a decade, Beginning of the future,
January 20, 201015 yr Breaking New Ground would of been more appropriate last year when we actually broke ground on the site for the stadium. Personally I'm in the "Proving Doubters Wrong Since 1993" camp.
January 20, 201015 yr Author Yeah, I think the best, most creative slogans died in the first 2 rounds. But this one is worse than generic, it makes no sense. Might as well go with "MarlinsBaseball.com: We Missed That 2009 Happened". It's worse than when we ran with "Building the Future" in 2008 and the stadium didn't get started on time.
January 20, 201015 yr I can't think of a better way to run this slogan thing than it's currently run but it seems to be an issue every year. I'm not sure what to do about it really. I like to give the community a chance to be involved and choose it. If anyone has an idea on how to run this process better, let me hear it. I'm open to suggestions.
January 20, 201015 yr Two things: #1 I think this is the best way to do it. Let the people who frequent this message board choose the slogan they want. #2 For those who don't like the slogan that wins, who cares? Does anyone really come onto these message boards to see the slogan? Round 7 of voting had a cool 39 votes.

January 21, 201015 yr Yo Admin, Imma happy for ya, and Imma let ya finish, but Puma had the best slogan suggestion of all time! All time!
January 21, 201015 yr Author Admin, since you seem to be open to input, I have a suggestion. I think that nominated slogans should be seconded (or thirded). That would trim out some of the bad ones. For example, there was one slogan this year that went something like "1997, 2003, 2010: Do The Math" while that does not make any mathematic sense whatsoever. I think if nominations had to be supported, some of the bad ones would be tossed out. Doesn't the first round of voting basically achieve this?

January 21, 201015 yr The problem with the first round of voting is that some of the better slogans are weeded out because of the bracket they are in. There were a few instances where I thought one bracket had several good slogans, but I was forced to choose only one .Here's my suggestion. Establish a system where the voter assigns point values to the different slogans. If there are 30 slogans, you would give your favorite slogan 30 points, your second-favorite slogan 29 points, etc. etc. until finally you give 1 point to your least-favorite. The votes are tallied up, and the slogan with the lowest total is eliminated after each round. It takes a lot more time and effort for the voter and especially for the person tallying the votes, but it's probably the best way to do it.
January 21, 201015 yr Join aboard my boat for the year of the teal! Im upset that Reel Big Fish was shunned. I also think that Breaking New Ground is absolutely retarded. And Proving Doubters Wrong Since 1993... it's not bad... but it seems very cliche.

This takes long enough as it is.
January 21, 201015 yr Take everybody's suggestion (you have plenty of them now), and collaborate with another member or two (looks like there's some legitimate candidates in this very thread), and filter the list down to the very best 3-5. The idea is to keep only the very best (the smaller the list the better) and weed out all the average/below average ones. Once you're comfortable with a final list, reveal the nominations and hold a single vote (majority wins). I'd keep the poll up for a long time though (3-4 weeks?), and reference it several times to generate as many votes as possible. I think this whole process would generate more interest from the community (people will want to see if their suggestion got nominated), and it will eliminate everybody from simply voting on their own suggestion. It will also allow the owners of the site/board to infuse their own preference/personality into the slogan -- which, ultimately, will be representing their site.
January 21, 201015 yr Author Wow you guys really hate my slogan, don't you? It's yours?  Sorry, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.
