Hopefully things are okay, he's been doing well enough down there. Depending on what moves are made we may as well get him back up here & face ML pitching. Every time he's been sent down he's hit AAA just fine.

Given the mistakes this group makes (its a strain..oops sorry its broken, lets try rest and rehab for that arm that apperars to be half off) before they send someone to Dr. Andrews, could maybe they just send them to Andrews in the first place and get the player back sooner. He's hitting .357 over 8 games [10/28] with 1 RBI, so I'm not so sure yet if you can say "just fine" at the moment. Though he does have 5 walks to 4 strikeouts so that's definitely better. Sirspud
Maybin always hits over .300 in AAA, but without substantial power. That tells me that he really isn't even getting the contact down there that he should be. He is probably spraying the all all over the place, but not making the kind of consistent solid contact which would result in XBH, and if he isn't capable of doing that against inferior pitching his chances of coming up to the majors and not being able to consistently hit major league pitching are too high. The natural power in Cameron's frame is substantial, but he can hardly bring it to bear any more consistently than Reggie Abercrombie. LordMagnus
Actually, I don't see any "natural power" in Maybin's frame. He's still very young and he's not all that bulked yet. Yes, I think by now we know that the projections for Maybin were overly optimistic. Some were saying he could be a forty home run guy, which of course seems laughable now. The problem with Maybin is that he doesn't have all that much power and still strikes out way too much.

Maybin might be a bit wiry, but he also hit a very famous shot off Clemens that was a ridiculous 490 ft. or something like that. This was in his first major league stint when he was 20. He's definitely not Mike Stanton, but his natural power was always very well known. Maybe since those times he hasn't bulked up like scouts really expected, but the real reason why 40 homers is out of reach has to do with hitting style and putting it on the ground too often. I never really thought 40 homers anyway, but there have been lots of athletic center fielders in recent years who are smaller than Maybin but are still capable of a 25-30 homer season ever year. CyggyMarlin
In the few games I watched Maybin play, it seemed like everytime he would try for the XBH, he'd lift his head up to read the billboards in left field and take his eye off the ball, looking bad on his swing
gizmo
I don't know if maybe his shoulder has been bothering him all season, thus somewhat explaining his slow start, but I still think at only 23 he has the possibility of becoming somewhat of a consistent hitter. I won't mind the lack of power so much as long as he still nets 2Bs and 3Bs.

And when he got it fixed and still wasn't producing, everyone figured out that he just sucked.
