AAA pitching coach Scott Mitchell

With the recent work of the likes of Jose Veras, is anyone surprised that St. Claire stayed here, despite the fact the rest of the coaching staff left? Mitchell seems to be doing a great job down in AAA. I believe he was there last year as well, for the Nolasco turnaround. It seems like when guys go back down to get fixed, they comeback pitching better, for the most part. Hopefully, he can make things work with Volstad.

I mentioned this exact thing in a post this morning. And previously.

Clay Hensley, Veras, Badenhop, a number of others have all benefited by spending time with Mitchell and many others did during spring training. Even Meyer is coming around down there. And there's hope for Sosa and West is back on track. I've been singing this guy's praises for a while now.

I do think he's in a good place right now at least as the organization is concerned (reclaiming these guys who have underachieved) but if he continues the Marlins are going to have to either a) pay him a ton more money to stay where he is, b) think about bringing up to the big club in 2011 or c) figure out how to keep him because a lot of other teams are going to be interested. He might be in line for example, for manager of the AAA franchise permanently should E-Rod stick.

You sort of have to think it's being done purposely in order to have a guy down in AAA that can fix people. Pitchers shouldn't be fixed in the MLB level, so (if that's the thinking) he's better off in AAA, where game outcomes aren't as important as individual outcomes.

I agree though, they're going to have to either pay him more or bring him up when time comes. I'd much rather have him in the organization anywhere than in another team.

Just saw via PBP that it looks like Tim Wood down, Dan Meyer up.

:lol

That sucks for Tim Wood. He's from Tucson and all off his family were supposed to be at the park on Saturday and Sunday.

I do feel sorry for him a little, but he's pitched like feces all season and did especially bad Thursday night.
