Giants signed outfielder Rob Stratton to a minor league contract. Stratton is one of the top power hitters and out-makers in the minors. He hit .212 with 32 HR, 82 RBI, 175/36 K/BB and 6 SB in 372 AB for Triple-A Albuquerque last season. He shouldn't be a candidate for a spot on the Giants.

 

that sucks, Stratton had great potential to be a dominant power hitter. He needed a lot of work on better pitch selection...but if the marlins organization got him some help, He could've been a great player.

I'm not. He has tremendous power but he's a long way from ever being a useful major league player. He's already 26 years old and he's now with his fourth organization. I'd be shocked if he ever amounts to anything on the major league level.

I agree. He would never be an everyday player because of how much he strikes out, and Marlins management has more important players (RE: younger) to work with. I'd liken him to Rob Deer.

like a former MLB player. Maybe invite him to spring training this year and let Dawson and Perez work with him and if that doesnt work, so be it.

He did strike out a lot but man, he could bomb on the baseball. Sucks though, I was looking forward to seeing his progress this spring in Albuquerque.

Tony Gwynn can't do crap.

 

He has done nothing for The Career of Jimmy Rollins and I know couldn't do anything for Stratton. There have been numerous examples of what these guys can do in the majors or in The High Minors and it never turns out pretty.

I watched him take BP prior to an AFL game a couple of years ago, and he could really jack the ball in BP. However, real game situations were his demise. His strike zone was huge, especially on breaking pitches. FB down the gut, show it going, going, gone. Consequently, he didn't see a lot of good pitches unless they were mistakes.

AJBurnett34- Comparing Stratton to Bautista and Gonzalez is an insult to those two. Those are bona-fide big league prospects. Stratton is nothing more than a journeymen minor leaguer.
