HitDaCycle
So I guess, given my handle on this site, I should be the one to ask this question. There's only two major league teams that never had a player hit for the cycle: the Padres and the Marlins. But it has to happen eventually! So knowing that the players I've listed in the poll will be with us for a few years, hopefully (well Maybin is iffy but I believe he'll at least be with the team next year), and at *least* will be around next year, my question is: which of them (or someone else on the team) do you think will be the first Marlins player to hit for the cycle? There's still a chance it could happen this year, or maybe next year. Share your thoughts on this subject. Be sure to mention in the thread who you voted for and optionally (for bonus points) what order do you think they'll achieve the cycle. Then, when that historic day does happen, we can look back at this thread and see who was right. Given that it happens while we still have these players on our team hehe Also, if you chose "Other", specify who and why. Some might question some of the players I put on the poll. So here's my reasoning: Hanley - I believe Hanley has what it takes to hit for the cycle. He's got the speed and the power Mike Stanton - When Stanton gets hits, he gets hits! Home runs are not a problem for him. He could just as easily get a triple, especially in some ballparks. He also has pretty good speed. He came very close to hitting for the cycle a while back but didn't get the triple (from what I remember). Logan Morrison - While Logan doesn't exactly have the speed, he already has 5 triples and in fact leads all Marlins hitters in triples this season. He only has two home runs however, so hitting home runs is actually more of the challenge, I think, for Logan. I still believe he's capable of hitting for the cycle though. One thing about Logan, he can always get on base. Maybin - While some wonder if Maybin will be on the Marlins next year, I believe he probably will. He has the speed to leg out a triple. I think Maybin could hit for the cycle. He has 3 triples this year and 8 home runs. Granted he's not a power hitter, but hey it could happen! So I just put my top four guesses. You guys can input your opinion. I know we just care about making the playoffs next year and winning games, but it'd be nice to see a Marlins player finally hit for the cycle, and since I was bored, I decided to make this poll heh. Note that in some ballparks, it's quite possible for even a slow player to hit for the cycle, so just about anyone can do it...even Uggla (that is, if he is on the team next year)
Schnellders
I voted Morrison. As stated, he has shown ability to hit triples already, and the HR power should come around in future years. And his average should be quite decent most of the time aswell.
BroncoBob27
I also went with Logan for the same reasons. But it would be funny if Boni did it. The dinger may be an ITPer, but it counts and would be fitting. Maybe even historic. Quite a few years back, Castillo was the dinger shy. His last AB he was up there swinging for the fences. And with his "unconventional" swing he was almost turning circles at the plate. When he did finally K, him and the entire team were laughing about it. Weird as it may be, that was probably my fav AB for him.
Rabbethan
I was thinking the same thing Bob was about Boni. Frankly I think it will be someone off lesser status for some reason while in the new ballpark. Scott Cousins in some start to spell an outfielder will do it. CyggyMarlin
Morrison because he has a great approach at the plate and has shown that he can hit triples and the power will get better for the HRs, probably the best shot... Stanton at this stage strikes out too much to pull it off, Hanley has the habit of occasionally taking good pitches early, falling behind and then chasing a pitch and helping out the pitcher
gizmo
Yeah, I'd say LoMo as well.
Jonny Ramos
I Voted for Maybin, however, didn't Morrison already have a game with a hr, a triple, and 2 doubles?
Eddie Altamonte
My vote goes to Chris Coghlan
Iowa
its a pretty random occurrence so anybody could get it... as evident by bengie molina, who could be the slowest man on the planet... and jody gerut, who is hitting his weight this year. So with that in mind, ill say hector luna
Dr Beinfest
If it were to happen next season it's between Logan, Hanley, and Maybin. Simply because the triple is the hardest part. But the triple needs to be done by someone with HR power, so sorry Bonifacio
Entendu
I say LoMo, but these things are so random that Baker might end up doing it
gizmo
Heh, just checked the stats out of boredom and saw that LoMo already leads the team in triples with 5.
Eddie Altamonte
Morrison might be our best base runner right now

HitDaCycle
Andrew Miller. Hit one, not give up one. :lol I agree that hitting for the cycle is very random and could happen to anyone...I'm personally torn between Logan and Hanley honestly, but Stanton could just as easily do it. But I would agree with CyggyMarlin that at this point, it would be tough for Stanton because he does strike out a bit too much. But seeing how long we've gone without a player hitting the cycle, we could go a few more years and by then, if Stanton is still on the Marlins ( :crossfingers ) he will most likely be a much better hitter. Well if anything...if someone on the Marlins hits for the cycle before the season's over...you can all thank me for making this post
Nny
Heh, just checked the stats out of boredom and saw that LoMo already leads the team in triples with 5. What's really crazy about logan's triples: He also hit 6 triple in the minors, totally 11 triples on the year now in 525 PA. Prior to this year, he had 7 total career triples in 1610 PA (or, 2 every 525 PA). Triples are completely random though. I.E. Wes Helms is second on the team with 4. Prior to this year, he hadn't hit a triple since 2006...when he had 5. 65% of his career triples have come in those two years. Just because Logan has hit a ton of triples this year doesn't mean he has a talent for triples, and considering his lack of triples previously, he likely doesn't. I mean, with his speed and gap power, he should certainly hit a couple a year. But not the double-digit pace he has this year.
MrMarlinPride
I'd go with Hanley, Stanton or LoMo. They all have the power to drive one out, are very good baserunners and hit the ball well. I give Stanton the least shot out of the 3 because he hits the ball to hard and the ball would likely end up hitting off the wall hard coming toward the Outfielder. Lo Mo is my best pick as he just seems to hit the ball from gap to gap with ease and if he can get the homerun out of the way early he has a great shot. Michael
Logan. Not only will he do it first, he'll do it in two straight games. My bold prediction.

You are a bold person my friend! Ok so here's what I think: Logan will hit for the cycle sometime next year. He'll get a triple, home run, double and then a single. That's my prediction.
