Shaft
I don't get it. I don't think he meant this with any slight towards Hanley, he's just commenting on Bonifacio's versatility.
Erick
I don't get it. I don't think he meant this with any slight towards Hanley, he's just commenting on Bonifacio's versatility. I definitely understood what he was saying; I just found it interesting. While it's nice to have a player with such versatility, I'd imagine a manager would still want his best player healthy instead of the utility player, if he had to choose. Just found it weird, I guess. Also, it's 2 AM in the morning, I'm not tired, and I'm really bored; this ranks right up there with the most irrelevant threads I've ever started... Schnellders
If Hanley makes $10m next season, Bonifacio deserves at least $15m. Why? Speed and versatility!
SilverBullet
He said it was easier to "manage" with Boni... Boni is a player that has to be managed... he's a part of double switches, pinch running, defensive changes, bunt plays, hit and runs, squeeze plays... the "moves" that E-Rod has to make are important to have Boni around for... Hanley doesn't need to be managed... you consistently put him in the 3-spot and at short and he plays himself, you don't make direct managerial changes with Hanley. That's what he meant. In that sense... you can argue that Boni, Murphy, Helms, Luna, and Tracy, are all easier to manage than Hanley, Uggla, Stanton, and other concrete parts of our lineup. No, that's not what he is saying here. Read the quote again. “To be honest, we can manage being without Hanley, but it’s hard to manage without Bonny because he can play everywhere, Rodriguez said. There are two definitions of the word "manage". One is "to be in charge; to control". The other is "to to bring about or succeed in accomplishing, sometimes despite difficulty or hardship". The way Edwin worded his statement, he is clearly using the second definition. What he said is that we [The Marlins] can succeed [win] being without Hanley, but it is hard to succeed without Bonny because he can play everywhere. Now, whether or not this is what he meant to say, I do not know. He would be out of his mind to think it is easier to win without Hanley than Bonifacio. He probably didn't word his statement correctly. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

enterthemadness
Warning shots of a possible Hanley trade????:mis2 Only way you trade Hanley is if you get Cliff Lee or someone of his caliber already in MLB. And if you still sign Uggla to new contract. I'm seriously. Hanley for Lee straight up.

For Hanley I want something like Lincecum and one of Sanchez/Cain/Bumgarner for him to be honest.
