Posted November 16, 201014 yr I'm going to try to beat everyone to it and let everyone here know that yes while we lossed one of our most beloved Marlins in Uggla, I haven't been so optimistic in this team since we got Delgado in 2005. Adding Infante reminds me of the Castillo/Pierre tandem from 2003. We got our new catalysts in Infante and Coghlan. Compare the players of 2003 to now 2010. We need more versatility....and speed to compete and we got it. Uggla was a prescence but he struck out too many times for us. Hanley will be the glue to this team. If we get Chris and Omar to slap us some hits, we got Hanley batting with at least a runner in scoring position. Pitching - we have what it takes NOW. Trading with Atlanta sort of reminded me when we got Spooneybarger. It is just going to be an exciting year. Plus, I think the bullpen will be much better than in 2003. I say keep Gaby and roll with it and possibly get another bat off the bench and I think Leo will leave and Clay will be closer. What are your thoughts? WE MISS YOU DAN
November 16, 201014 yr I thought this was going to be a 'remember this date as the death of the Marlins' or some garbage like that. I'm glad it's not. Cant say I agree with everything, but for the most part. Yes. This is a good step, I dont think people notice that yet.
November 17, 201014 yr I'm glad it's not. Cant say I agree with everything, but for the most part. Yes. This is a good step, I dont think people notice that yet. How is trading Uggla to a division rival for a utility guy who had a career year and a lefty reliever with a 1.78 WHIP a good step? I understand the reason to trade Uggla, but I don't understand the reason to trade him where we did and for what nor can I understand how anyone can view Infante and Dunn as a "good step".

I think we're over valuing Uggla... maybe we really coudnt get more for him right now and the FO was just insistent on trading him, turning the page and moving on. We got a decent enough deal if Infante's 2010 was anything beyond a fluke, and maybe Dunn can contribute here. I'm upset too but people are overreacting. People on here threw out Rasmus, JP Arencibia, Brett Cecil, and other upper level names as potential in an Uggla deal. Now we get Infante and people are disappointed. Seems like we set ourselves up for this.
November 17, 201014 yr It's a good step because we added a reliever and a versatile infielder. Sometimes the FO makes questionable moves but maybe they know something we don't. If there is any upgrade to this he will be trying to hurt the Mets, Phillies, and Nationals still. Plus, its over and done with. I'm going with 2003 momentum, the way that team was built after being predicted to go sub 500 that year. We are not world beaters by any stretch and I still pick the Marlins over Atlanta. Now Uggla has gotta deal with Fredi's crap,...again. Good trade once we start seeing results in April.
November 17, 201014 yr I understand this guy trying to create a silver lining... thats fine. But with Beinfest's track record, theres a chance Uggla goes all Willis on us... crashes down the line and in 2 years is working on spring training invites to be a bench player.

Oh I agree there was a lot of overvaluing of Uggla going on with this board, but I still don't see how a second basemen who has a career .837 OPS and will hit you 30-35 HR's a year is worth, in your own division, a 30 year old utility guy with a .720 OPS and a reliever with a 1.78 WHIP, both of those numbers and the roles I expect them to fill could have easily been duplicated from in house options or cheap free agents. I'm sorry, but to me that just doesn't seem to be a good step in any direction. Honestly for those players I would have rather signed him arbi for next year and let him walk in '12 and take the first round pick. There is no way to spin this, this move is not good and makes no sense
November 17, 201014 yr Oh I think Uggla is going to do well and for that matter Heyward, McCaan, etc. I mean don't you think its pretty clear that they are trying to be more speedy? I mean what do I know, we've all been watching baseball for a very long time. Injury here, injury there, luck there, luck here, who knows? But I can easily set the Marlins to at least 90 wins with an improved catcher and of course a better bullpen and if the starting pitching is consistant, why not right?
November 17, 201014 yr Infante not a stolen base guy. And if he has a big year as a regular in 2011, he'll be a gone Free Agent.
November 17, 201014 yr Should be an interesting year regardless, and of course Chris will be back and Stanton will improve. Should be a solid lineup.
November 17, 201014 yr Logan and Stanton...that's why I'm excited about 2011..period And Hanley returning to Hanley form.
November 17, 201014 yr I think you need to get your head checked. I think you need to look at the roster. Seriously, the Uggla trade sucked in terms of value and I understand your point, but the overall team might be better off. Our weakness last year might actually be our strength now, believe it or not.

Wasnt a huge fan at the beginning. Stanton's stepping up to that spot now.
