No way in hell he gets in, but he was one of the best then.

I'd love to see him get in, but i doubt it.

On a separate note the Franchise 1st catcher Benito Santiago finds his name on the ballot as well

neither one of them have chance...They will not not even get enough votes to remain on the ballot next year

As cool as it would be (and he'd probably go in as a Marlin), I just don't see it happening.

I've been thinking about CJ and Benito, and I have a question for those of you who are deeper into stats than I am. Is there any kind of stat that reflects how well a catcher works with pitchers? It seems like that information usually comes from conversations with pitchers, coaches, and managers. I can't think of any way it could be recorded as data. Is there?

Congrats to both on what should be their first and last year on the ballot. If CJ could have sustained his numbers from his first 5 years or so he would be a great choice, sadly he didn't. As for Benny, with the release of the Mitchell report we now all know why he got such a great second half to his career, but again his first few years were great. How much longer until the greatest catcher in Marlins history (Piazza) goes on the ballot?

Mike Piazza gets inducted in 2013!

If CJ had escaped injury this might be a different story... and really he might just be finishing up a career instead of being on the ballot.

Benito will come down to how the writers treat the players of the steroid era

CJ is the 2nd best catcher in franchise history He was a hell of a defender and had great power . i believe if injuries didnt get the best of him he would have been a HOFer without question. Watching CJ was just a thing of beauty when he was behind the plate,,,Bennito was a strong catcher but as much of a fan i am of his he was not quite at the same level albeit very good catcher with great mobility just not a HOFer

What happened to CJ? I'm not too caught up on what happened after he was traded for Juan Pierre.

CJ also played in 123 games in one season without committing an error, a major league record

Exactly what numbers? CJ was a fav of mine, but if memory serves correctly he never was much with the bat except that quick trip to the AL. I'm not sure if he ever broke .250 with us, but maybe. I don't ever remember him hitting 20 dingers with us either. Think he came close. But did he ever have a glove and quick feet behind the plate. Too bad those quick feet didn't follow him around the bases.

A couple ASGs, 4 or 5 GGs, but the below average bat does not = HOF.

Bennie either. But it sure was fun watching him throw runners out from his knees. Bout took Uncle Charlies head off in one of the first ST games of '93.

Pretty much. 4 GG, 2 AS, hit .251 in '95, .250 in '97, 19 HR in '97 and '98.

Hit .259 with 18 HR in the return engagement in '01. Even if he had done '01 numbers for 15 years he's not HoF. Of course, he didn't and he isn't.

I gotta wonder if he still holds a grudge vs the org. Even the fans more or less snubbed their noses at him on his return, I think because they expected his AL offensive numbers to play over to the NL. When that didn't happen they were more disappointed than anything. A number of ex-Marlins that live in the area are affiliated with the team in one capacity or another. Bennie even helps out from time to time. And yet CJ is never at any event and you rarely even hear his name mentioned. Last I really heard of him was that he was helping his wife at some store she owned someplace in Broward (I think Broward).

There are a couple around here that have this thing for Piazza. Never much cared for him myself.

wasn't piazza a marlin for like 3 games? Somehow i doubt he goes in as a marlin.
