Some highlights of Hanley Ramirez’s 10-minute session with reporters Monday morning:

“I want to be able to start stealing some bases from the beginning of the season. I want to be in very good position. When I say in very good position I mean my weight. Be ready to go [with] my legs. Everything together, the speed, power, my range at shortstop.

“I started last year to do everything a little late. I started running, stealing bases a little late. I want to be able this year to start from April.

The state of his elbows: “I needed a lot of rest, which is what I did. It took me a couple of months.

“I think I was a different player. It’s why I started a little bit earlier this year, to be me. The type of player I am is aggressive, at home plate, on the bases, on the field.

“I wasn’t ready for April 5 last year. This year is going to be different.

On owner Jeffrey Loria saying it’s time for him to win an MVP award: “I like the challenge that I have to take the team to the playoffs. That’s my challenge this year. I’m going to put us on my back and go all the way to the end, go hard every day.

On how far the Marlins can go: “Very far. Our bullpen is better. Our defense is going to be better. We got [Perry Hill] back. He’s the best. He’s going to help us out a lot. He’s got a lot of work for us. He told me from the beginning, ‘Are you ready for me?’ I said, ‘I’m ready for you.’

On his relationship with Edwin Rodriguez: “I have a lot of respect for Edwin, the way he treats everybody. He just lets them play and play hard, and you’re going to be fine. This team is very happy the way he’s taken the wheel. For me, Edwin, he’s got a good heart and everybody here is very happy.

On hitting ahead of Mike Stanton: “He has to protect me and show everybody that he’s ready for it. Obviously, sometimes they’re just going to put me on base or pitch around me to face him and he has to show them he’s ready for it.

On the Marlins not generating any attention: “That’s good. We’re going to be undercover. We’re going to explode on April 1 all the way to October.

I like that he wants to steal more bases this season. That's what made him such a threat in his early career, he could hit HRs, hit for average and steal 50 bases.

I'm expecting huge things from Hanley this year.

He looks in good shape from what I saw while he was hitting BP at Nova High School a week or two ago.

I'm expecting an average around .315-.325 then about 30+ HR 110 RBI 45 SB's and a much better year defensively.

Maybe the MVP will come to him when we're in the playoff hunt and he decides to go off and lead us into October.

Just because a guy goes 1.000 AVG | 1.000 OBP | 70 HR | 200 R | 250 RBI | 90 SB | +10.0 UZR doesn't mean its gonna be 162-0. I'll say 125-150games

Actually I was more or less figuring assuming that Stanton would also go 1.000 AVG | 1.000 OBP | 70 HR | 200 R | 250 RBI | 90 SB | +10.0 UZR ...

which is where I came up with those numbers of 162-0.

Dude, there's no way that only 70 of Stanton's 600 hits land over the fence.

So unrealistic.

Plus you have to factor in Coghlan's defense in center. That might cost us a game or two....

Hanley 2011 statistics:

1.000 AVG | 1.000 OBP | 70 HR | 200 R | 250 RBI | 90 SB | +10.0 UZR

Fixed.

So uh... 162-0? Safe bet?

I'd say 159-3, with the only losses coming against Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh.

BWAHAHA!!! With all the sarcasm and tongue in cheek comments in this thread... THAT one literally made me laugh outloud! Glorious!

With one of them being a perfecto by Scott Olsen.

Hanley and Stanton sat out that game then?

This may be your best work to date, Mikey.
