Posted April 7, 201113 yr I performed a quick search of past threads, but was unable to find any posts concerning out-of-town watering holes where I could catch Marlins games on TV. If a thread already exists, feel free to shut this one down. Otherwise... I recently moved to New York City and overheard two people meeting each other at a bar last night and both shared they were from Missouri and were Cardinals fans. One of them mentioned a bar in the city where Cardinals fans congregate, and apparently over 50 showed up on opening day to watch the game. Impressive indeed, but it made me a little jealous. Apparently Dolphins fans hit Traffic Bar on 2nd ave bet 52nd and 53rd St., so my tenuous assumption is that they might occasionally play Marlins games...but football is a much bigger $$ draw than football, so I'm skeptical they'd even dedicate a TV screen to FoxSports Florida... Does anyone know of a "Marlins bar" in the NYC area? How about Marlins bars in other cities? Let's get a list going in the event the baseball gods have it in their plans that us fans to meet up and enjoy a game (and some beers) together. Go fish—

Go fish— I don't know of any in the NYC area but the Cardinals one... is that the one in the Lower West side? Like, around Tribeca or that area? I think I've been there. I mean, it's NY so it wouldn't surprise me if there was more than one.

The other (according to BarChannels.com) is "Blarney Rock Pub" which is West 33rd. Neither is Tribeca, but there might be more...?
April 7, 201113 yr The difference is that the Cardinals are a team that have a huge fanbase and are more likely to have a sizable following outside of their market. I think you would have trouble finding this for a team like the Marlins. You might have to nucleate it yourself. Maybe start a group at Meetup.com, Facebook, or something for Marlins fans in NYC.
April 7, 201113 yr I think the place I'm thinking of might be Mudville 9, but nothing on their website suggests it is a Cardinals bar. But I'm fairly certain that's the place.
April 7, 201113 yr Author You might have to nucleate it yourself. Maybe start a group at Meetup.com, Facebook, or something for Marlins fans in NYC. Not a bad idea. I'll put together a Meetup post later on tonight and link to it here...though I still run into the problem of finding a bar that will play the games :/
April 7, 201113 yr If you get enough people signed up first, I'm sure finding a bar to accommodate you won't be too difficult.
April 7, 201113 yr Author Unfortunately, Meetup charges $12/month to organize a group!! Don't think I'm willing to fork over that much for such a small group—but I'll find a way!!
April 7, 201113 yr Just the thought of a Marlins bar here in South Florida makes me laugh seeing as most bars that I go to I have to ask to turn the freaking game on. Do they even have a Marlins bar in South Florida? That will be the day when there is a Marlins themed bar in NYC or somewhere else LOL

I go to the Ale House and you need to FIND the right booth to sit at in order to watch the game. That being said, all it takes is 5-10 fans and a fan owner in NY to get it going, which is why it wouldn't surprise me if it existed. Lots of teams, even small teams like the Diamondbacks, have fan bars in NYC.

April 7, 201113 yr Nope, no FSN on campus. Although somehow the Marlins game was on yesterday on SUN, even though it was being broadcast as FS Florida. Judging from last season, I expect this to be very, very rare that a Marlins game overrides the Rays around here (not a single Marlins game was on in all of August or September).

I agree, it's not worth it if you have to pay. I think it's going to be hard for you to find enough people for this. The Marlins simply aren't represented well outside of Florida. When you see Marlins fans at road games, I think a lot of them are just people visiting from Florida anyway.

April 8, 201113 yr I've never come across one personally. You'd be surprised though, NYC holds a large Latino community and the fish get represented pretty well through it. I don't know if you've ever been out to Citi field or Shea back in the day but there is a decent showing every time I go. Probably more fans total than go to our home stadium once the luster of opening week wears off.
