Posted November 29, 201113 yr http://espn.go.com/n...l-rio-sell-team While Weaver is confident Khan will keep the team in Jacksonville, there is nothing written in the deal which obligates Khan to do that. Weaver's confidence stems from assurances Khan has made to him personally and the fact that the Jaguars' lease to play at EverBank Field runs through the 2029 season. If the Jaguars wanted to leave before the end of the deal, the lease requires the team to prove they had lost money in three consecutive seasons or to convince a local judge that the city was failing to properly maintain the stadium. "It's pretty hard to put something in writing saying you have to do something but you have to trust individuals' integrity and I have no doubt that Shahid is going to do what he plans to do," Weaver said. "I had to be comfortable that his plan was to keep the team in Jacksonville. There's not a doubt in my mind that this team will be in Jacksonville." there's a good amount of doubt in my mind this team will be here in 10 years. only time will tell. first Pakistani owner in the big 4 sports?
November 29, 201113 yr Author I bet Khan already has his lawyer looking at ways to get out of that contract, though. I hope they stay. just preparing for the worst.
November 29, 201113 yr took long enough, right? I can't believe they kept him this long. I can understand holding onto him because of the player strike at the start of the season and not knowing what is going on, but man his ass shoulda be canned 3 years ago at the earliest
November 29, 201113 yr 2029 is 18 years away. I'm sure they can easily get out of that if they want too.
November 30, 201113 yr well Weaver trusts him and he's been chasing away potential buyers for years if they wanted to move the team. That counts for something. certainly pleased about Del Rio though, team needed a change. OFFENSE PLEASE!
November 30, 201113 yr maybe i'm jaded as a sonics fan - but the writing appears to be on the wall for this franchise.....
December 1, 201113 yr Author Though plenty of folks in Jacksonville understandably cling to those terms as ensuring that the team won’t leave for nearly two decades at the earliest, everything is negotiable. And since Khan won’t have to make a balloon payment of $100 million or more to Weaver if Khan leaves Jacksonville before some specific date in the future, Khan and/or the folks in L.A. who want to move a team there will be able to devote all available cash to procuring a release from the remaining terms of the lease. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/11/30/when-it-comes-to-the-future-of-the-jaguars-believe-no/ As one executive with a team other than the Jaguars told PFT on Wednesday morning, "People that I trust think there is a chance [Rams owner] Stan Kroenke moves the Rams to L.A. and [shahid] Khan moves to St. Louis." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/11/30/if-jags-move-l-a-may-not-be-the-destination welp...
December 1, 201113 yr don't touch my f*cking team. and that writer's an idiot. For those of you who are as willing to blindly believe right now that theJaguars won't move as you were willing to blindly believe Wayne Weaver when he said earlier this month that he isn't selling the team, save yourself the aggravation and scroll past this story. For those of you who are willing to be skeptical of an industry that has generated ongoing proof of the value of skepticism, read on. wow aren't you insightful?! Everyone knew Weaver was selling the team sooner rather than later jackass, the guy's like 80 years old. What difference does it make that it's happening now? Hey guys! Don't rule out that something somewhere might happen sometime! This one guy totally told me that a team might move sometime to a different place! STFU. Attendance in Jacksonville is fine, they just need to win. They're outdrawing the Fins and Bucs and this for a team that never makes the playoffs and has no history. eh whatever...
December 1, 201113 yr Seriously St. Louis > Jacksonville? Puhleeeeeze http://www.theonion.com/articles/us-adds-4-million-jobs-but-in-st-louis,26759/
December 5, 201113 yr I bet Khan already has his lawyer looking at ways to get out of that contract, though. I hope they stay. just preparing for the worst. Not happening. Khan's company is the only company who provides bumpers to Toyota. Period. They also provide most of the bumpers used by the U.S. Big Three. Khan himself works with Southeast Toyota in Jacksonville, commuting there frequently, so he has more than a slight connection to the city. Weaver left money on the table to sell to somebody who would keep the Jaguars here. Ed Roski, the brains behind the City of Industry stadium project in LA, offered Weaver $800 million. He instead sold it to Khan for $760 million. Plus, I don't need to remind you guys this. The Jaguars this year are the highest-drawing NFL team in Florida. They've been outdrawing the Bucs 4 out of the last 7 years (and on-par 2 of the other 3). So despite the wet dreams of ESPN, the Jaguars are NOT leaving Jacksonville. Not now, nor anytime soon.
January 9, 201213 yr Author New Jaguars owner Khan fires senior VP of football operations hell yeah. getting sh*t done.
January 25, 201213 yr It almost seems as if Tampa just isn't a good sports town for some reason between the Bucs and Rays.
January 25, 201213 yr It almost seems as if Tampa just isn't a good sports town for some reason between the Bucs and Rays. They've been blacked out locally for the past few years I believe.
