BALTIMORE -- Josh Hamilton belted four home runs -- yes, four -- as the Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 10-3, on Tuesday. Neftali Feliz made an early lead hold up. But clearly Hamilton is the story. He's the 16th player in big league history to hit four homers in a game.

Congratulations to Josh, that's pretty amazing, it's rare that you see a player hit multiple home runs in a game let alone four.

4 HR's in 1 game=Contract extension.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Rangers have reopened negotiations with Josh Hamilton on a possible contract extension.

Contract talks were tabled following Hamilton's relapse in early February, but the two sides recently began discussing a long-term contract. However, the Rangers remain weary of signing him to a contract similar in value to the one the Angels gave to Albert Pujols (10 years, $240 million) or the one the Tigers gave to Prince Fielder (nine years, $214 million). It's an understandable stance given Hamilton's addiction and injury history. If the impending free agent continues his torrid pace, he might find his best offer on the open market.

And now people are being stupid.

The asking price for Josh Hamilton's services will undoubtedly see a boost on the heels of his explosive four home run assault on Baltimore on Tuesday, but not because league talent evaluators have suddenly been convinced of something new.

Hamilton’s stock ratcheted up to the next level Tuesday night because of one word: marketing.

Anyone with a working eyeball has been able to see that Hamilton was the second coming of Mickey Mantle long before Tuesday. We’re not talking about a coming out party here. The secret of Hamilton’s elite skill set has never been a secret. He was Bryce Harper before Bryce Harper was Bryce Harper.

- Ben Rogers, ESPNDallas

Josh Hamilton is the most outsized talent of his generation, and if you exclude stars tainted by the steroids era, there's been nothing like him since Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. Even from this distance, he looms over both, standing a good five inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than either baseball icon in his '50s prime.

Kevin Sherrington, Dallas Morning News

Come on. Josh Hamilton is a terrific player. He's awesome.

But he's not f***ing Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays awesome. He's not even Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera awesome.

People have beat memes to death so badly it'snot even funny.

That's an awful meme. That's not what memes are about. That's not funny. Thanks, viral Facebook, for ruining something once again.

That's not even a meme. Just because it has Impact font on it doesn't make it one.

Also, Hammy isn't really "destroying" Kemp. 1.249 to 1.298 this early in the year isn't destroying. And I still think Kemp is the better player.

Meme, sorry excuse at a meme, whatever you want to call it.

The point is that once it went viral, people seem to think that simply captioning a photo, whether funny captions or not, makes a meme. It doesn't.
