Mickey Mantis
There are 4 cornerstones to this franchise as we speak...Reyes, Buerhle, JJ and, the most important of all, Stanton...lets hope we can soon add Turner, Eovaldi, Fernandez, and Yelich to that list... First off congrats to Stanton well deserved. As for conerstones I would agree with Reyes and Stanton, but would beg to differ regarding Buerhle and JJ as being "cornerstones" as those are what you want to build upon, both appear to be at best solid #2 pitchers at this point in their careers. I'm not really sure Eovaldi can realistically be considered a future cornerstone. The guy will probably be a decent reliever. Johnson is probably gone after next season, if not sooner. Dr Beinfest
I imagine they didn't trade JJ either because they couldn't get a good price on him or because they plan on keeping him. Honestly, I wanted to see the trade happen but at this point, I'd be afraid to go into next season without him. Grats to Mikey Stanton though. Hope he sends a few more bombs out there and finishes off the season strong.

To write off any prospect/young player as a reliever or bench player when he was just traded for a former all star is moronic. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised with your doom and gloom attitude. I wouldn't be surprised to find out you have an underground bunker and a pallet of tang in your backyard. What's your plans for 12/12/12 penguino? Will you be in your bunker waiting for planes to crash and your home to spontaneously combust? I hope you forget to pack an oxygen tank down there. ...
This is what happens when a season falls apart and all that's left to watch is the awesomeness of Stanton. Normally civil people become neurotic or depressed or drunk or all of the above and attack each other, instead of the hitting coach or the FO or whoever the current favorite punching-bag happens to be. Things will improve by Spring Training, when optimism flows everywhere. Stanton will be locked-up for at least the next 6 years and all will be right with the world. Are you saying that since he was traded for Hanley theres extra value to him or something? Wasnt the Hanley trade mainly just to get rid of that contract? yokofox33
I didn't realize words like probably or not so sure suddenly meant "absolutely" and "no doubt." But I agree, we just can't write off prospects. That's why I think Gorkys Hernandez will win the HR crown one day.
EricWiener
Eovaldi is not Gorkys. Gorkys is a 5th OF, defensive sub / pinch runner... at best. Eovaldi is anything from a solid middle reliever to #2 starter. Maybe worth Hanley, maybe not, but a lot of that has as much to do with Hanley as it does with Eovaldi. A player is certain to be awesome just because he was traded for a former all-star. Nothing else matters, such as Ramirez's recent performance and his contract status. And Ramirez was struggling in Miami because opposing pitchers would rather pitch around him to get to Giancarlo Stanton. You are right about that too. Hell, apparently Eovaldi's own performance doesn't matter!
