Im not trying to complain about him still being up, I'm genuinely curious about when we send him down to get a little more seasoning?

Beef Cake Solano is crushing in AAA as annoying as that is to say so do we send Dietrich back down to work on somethings and start succeeding more in the minors then bring him back up in September?

Tough call. He's really pressing. It's hard because I wanted all these guys to get a full season in Jax.... but now that he's up, do you let him work through it in the majors or go back down?

Dietrich has not taken his at bats to the field which is great. He has played much better defense than Solano as well.

I was expecting Solano to hit well at AAA anyway and he would make a nice utility infielder but Ed Lucas is taking care of that right now.

I think Dietrich cant get any better instruction than up here and he will turn it around.

Right now... let him work it out up here, you also have to judge the personality of the kid to know whether he is handling it the right way or not. You only send him down to protect him if it comes to that.

Well, I don't think the player's emotions should play a role. If you think it's best to send him down just say: "Listen, we see you as our 2nd baseman of the future, and we think it would be best for you to get some more work in the minors for now. Work your ass off and you'll be back up soon." If he can't handle that, then he's got issues.

The problem is if you send him down to work on things it could actually be a detriment to his development and he is going to outproduce Solano anyway. Not really a tough call to me.

Give him another couple weeks to see if he adjust. All rooks go through hard times. U can see his ability is a very good 2b.

What's more advantageous for a player in his situation is not clear to me. I'm not really sold on him yet being the second baseman of the future, but the Marlins need to decide whether or not sending him down is better for his development.

Your hatred of Solano is absurd.

Lots of players have been sent down and responded well to their demotions, as long as the player realizes his goal is to stay in the Majors and not just make it to the Majors, I think that will be the case if they send Dietrich down. At this point player development has to be more important than potential wins at least for this season.

Alot of Dietrich homers here...maybe is b/c he's _______.

Not as absurd as my hatred of Solano IMO

Or SomethingFishy's love for Solano.

Why didn't we ask him what he thought about Jhonatan?

Not hatred at all. He doesnt belong on a major league roster however.

Because he won't get any better instruction or more playing time in the minors.

Not more playing time but I mean why ever send anyone down then? Just sort of playing devil's advocate here but I'm not sure I get the "sending him down could hurt his development" argument that Spike is alluding to also. If you're trying to work on your swing for example, personally I would feel it's easier to do it in a minor league game where there's less at stake. Tie game in the top of the 8th inning vs the St Louis Cardinals with a man in scoring position may not be the easiest time to tinker with your swing, particularly for a young player who seems so aggressive at the plate. I don't really have a strong opinion what they should do with him, as you say wins are not a big deal this season and development is key... but that could be hard to impart onto a young player. That's Tino's job I guess.

Either way I like the kid and he's gonna be our 2B for years.

Dietrich is just another Dan Uggla to me. And, that might even be a generous comparison.

Mid to upper 800s OPS at a premium position? I hope he's another Dan Uggla.

Year: .199/.264/.377 (.641 .OPS), 25.2 K%

June: .167/.231/.333 (.564 .OPS), 29.5 K%

Last 7 days: .059/.158/.176 (.334 .OPS), 41.1 K%

The answer to the OP's question is about another week or so of fail before he gets sent down again.

The fact that the team sucks is irrelevant. To think he has nothing left to learn in the minor leagues is probably false, as well. A demotion isn't going to ruin his confidence. If anything, facing the same big league pitches that he looks absolutely clueless on is going to ruin his confidence.

It's one thing to struggle; it's another to constantly chase pitches out of the zone and strike out nearly 30% of the time as he has over the past month. He looks lost.

A demotion doesn't mean the organization thinks any less of him. It just means he needs to work on things. Ike Davis is considered to be part of the Mets future and they suck this year, too. They recently sent Davis down for similar struggles. You can't just let a young player continuously fail like this.

A guy with a .9 WAR over his past 123 games has a place on some major league roster. I know you strongly dislike him, but I'm sure you can see that there are currently plenty of players in the big leagues who are worse than he is. That includes some guys on our current roster.

Dietrich's upside/potential is better than Solano's, but to say that "he is going to outproduce Solano, anyway" is probably false considering what Dietrich's done over the past month. An empty batting average is better than nothing. Dietrich looks like he could use some more seasoning in the minor leagues.

I have doubts that Solano can even sustain an empty batting average. He was absolute garbage for the entire first month before than uncharacteristic hot streak.

And that mediocre WAR is totally because of last season, where Solano played way over his head, where he put up #s he will never duplicate nor come close to duplicating.

The bottom line is that he's played 123 games in the big leagues and has a .290/.340/.361 slash line. It's driven by a .345 .BABIP, but it's also driven by a line drive % of 28 so it's not as if he hasn't hit the ball hard at times.

He also cut down his K% from 18.4% last year to 12.7% this year before he got injured.

Is he a starter? No.

But to say things like "he is going to outproduce Solano anyway" in reference to Dietrich who's been really bad for awhile now and "He (Solano) doesn't belong on a major league roster" are a couple of examples of hyperbole.

Not really.

While he is a terrible offensive player, he is also a butcher defensively.

Is Dietrich a butcher too, then?

Dietrich has the potential to be a solid glove man. Solano has stone hands and no range.
