One of the issues with empirical evidence (I assume this was empirical) is that it finds relationships, but without sound rationalization in drawing a link between the two the study is worthless. I think it was like 10 years ago that they had this study that found a strong relationship between AFC teams winning the Super Bowl and stock prices the day following the win. However, most people didn't pay attention to it because it lacked any real logical link.

 

I learned this all in an graduate accounting course at KillJoke University.
