Michael
MLB Network was saying he'll most likely be traded NEXT winter. Meh. If we can get an actual return for him and not 6 busts ...
legacyofCangelosi
I have always felt with these things a lot of analysts and commentators love to say the marlins will trade all their good players based of course on history, but also lack of knowledge of how the team and the contracts actually work. They are also fans of big market teams and secretly want these players on their teams. They like to equate the Stanton situation with the Uggla one. Where realistically its much more like Hanley where we wanted to build around him, signed him long term and kept him here for several years. Sure they traded him eventually but after 6 years and after he tanked w the team.
miamibaseball
stanton will think before sign because he dont be with team that rebuilding for years
FutureGM
Most signs have pointed to him not wanting to be here anymore, particularly after the scorched earth plan last offseason. I don't blame him. So it wouldn't shock me if he would turn down an offer. He knows that he can get more from someone else anyway.
Michael
Where are these signs? Where?! ONE TWEET! That's it! Oh, he had a down year, I forgot, the universal sign of not wanting to be somewhere. I've seen no signs other than the tweet.
Anonymous
I have a really hard time seeing Stanton saying no to 90-100 million in guaranteed cash, even if he doesn't like it here. He can get used to it with all of that money.
Entendu
Stanton will take the money if it's offered to him. Now it's just a matter of whether or not our terrible FO is going to offer it to him..
DcFishFan
If Loria sells the team, Stanton might sign a long term deal.

Michael
It's midloading! D: And regressing towards the end. It's all a fair contract and all that jizzy-jazz.
pollythewog
I think he gets 6 million or so. Do you think the fish end up agreeing to terms with him or if the arb courts will be the ultimate decider?
Wild Card
I hope they come to terms... arbitration process sucks when you're trying to woo a player to stay.

FutureGM
I'm still waiting for this supposed offer to happen. It really needs to be done this offseason if it's going to get done at all.
Undakai
Can't wait to hear SOMETHING new from the FO. Even if a contract is rejected, would like to know something was attempted. Right now it all sounds like speculation. Oh well, still have lots of off season to go. Swear these months are the slowest.
FutureGM
Jayson Stark of ESPN seems to think that the Marlins are going to defer offering Stanton a contract for another year. http://espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove13/story/_/id/10007705/sizing-market-robinson-cano

FutureGM
That does sound like the FO though. They'd rather put this off. But it's dumb of them to think that next year's team is going to look radically different from the one that finished 2013.
Wild Card
But it's dumb of them to think that next year's team is going to look radically different from the one that finished 2013. No it's not. We're going into the year with a healthy rotation that is established, a solid bullpen with no holes, a healthy LoMo from day 1, Christian Yelich from day 1, Derek Dietrich from day 1, and Marcell Ozuna from day 1. This team should be much improved over last year without any acquisitions at all.

Backin2008
You are right Wild Card. But, without a lot of positive additions, this is still about a 100-loss team.
