December 3, 201311 yr Cogs, whatever. Surprised about Webb. Agreed. Why non-tender a reliever who posted a 2.90 ERA last year? He is just fine in middle relief.
December 3, 201311 yr So that's it? They're officially free agents then? Gee, kinda surprised they cut the cord on these two somewhat abruptly. I mean I know Cogs isn't much anymore but in our position I figured he was at least organizational depth.
December 3, 201311 yr Author the cogs era finally ends.. poor fella They could still potentially sign him. I hope they don't, though.
December 3, 201311 yr Yeah non tendering a reliever who just put up a 2.90 ERA season is kinda strange. Coghlan is whatever. We have a ton of reliever options, so it's not a big deal, but still strange they wouldn't be able to find anybody who would trade even a little something for a above average reliever.
December 3, 201311 yr I can't figure out this FO right now, they must have some kind of a plan...what it is, who know?
December 3, 201311 yr really dont get not tendering Webb. He was very solid last year and logged a lot of innings. Kept his WHIP down too. Â He was due to make about 2-2.5 million is my guess. Dont get that one. Pen just got weaker I think.

December 3, 201311 yr Maybe it's an injury we don't know about, like Kiko a few years ago. Otherwise, it's just silly.
December 3, 201311 yr I wouldn't be surprised to see them turn around and sign Coghs to a minor league deal. Makes sense they don't want to commit to anything more than the league minimum. Webb is very, very strange. I mean, even at $2 Mill or so, he has to have trade value, right? I don't get it.
December 3, 201311 yr Author Whatever story the FO puts out I'm sure it will be a Webb of lies. If we ever stop doing these, I may have to start using Salty language in my posts.

December 3, 201311 yr I dunno it makes sense to me. Webb's era last year was more a result of luck than anything. He really didn't do anything different than 2012 except get lucky. His BB rate still stinks and so does his k rate. His chances of replicating 2012 are higher than his chances of replicating 2013. However, someone will sign him and he'll definitely get that $2-3m # (and be even worse because he doesn't have marlins park to hold those Hrs).

You think the Marlins FO cares about peripherals? :mike2

Otherwise on the complete and utter surface, Webb would seem like a shoe-in for a RP at $2-3m.
December 3, 201311 yr Thank the lord. Ryan Webb is awful. don't let his pitching park numbers fool you, he is not a reliable arm out of any bullpen. He is incredibly replaceable for a cheap price. His whip for his career is near 1.4 despite pitching in the two best ballparks in the league his entire career. Â Cogs is kinda bittersweet but it was time to move on. No clue what has happened to him since his rookie year but he's a good guy and i hope he finds success somewhere.
