February 5, 201411 yr Yikes. Based on last season alone he deserved a big deal, and at 24 he's still got a ton of untapped potential. I think it's a 50/50 deal. It's not $20 million a year plus and you're signing the guy through ages 24-32, which are pretty much prime years, so it's a pretty great deal on the surface. But Freeman was more of a steady success guy in the minors and was like that in the majors before his breakout last season. If I'm a Braves fan I'm excited about this deal. Freeman is a pretty high floor guy that even if he regresses he'll still be a decent 1B, and if he continues to build into his frame then he could be one of the three best first basemen in the game.
