Fire Redmond

I know that fans always complain about the team's manager, but in this case Redmond is visibly terrible at his job. He's probably the most incompetent manager in the franchise's history.

One thing I disagreed with was when Mathis was up in the 5th with 1st and 3rd, one out, down one run, and he had him swinging. Mathis is a s*** hitter, but he's not a bad bunter. Perfect squeeze spot.

Mathis shouldn't have been playing today at all. It's a day game after a night game so it's understandable why he played. With that said, it would've made more sense to play Mathis last night and saved Saltalamacchia for today's day game.

We faced a lefty last night and a righty today. It would've made much more sense to play Mathis against the lefty and Salty against the righty. Salty struggles against a left-handed pitching so any time there's a chance to give him a rest, it should be when a lefty is on the mound.

What did he do today?

Well, I already mentioned the Salty/Mathis thing.

In the game today alone, he let Garrett Jones face a lefty specialist in a key moment in the game with right-handed hitters available on the bench.

He also brought in Dan Jennings for no reason. It didn't hurt us because Marmol bailed him out (which is another questionable move to bring in Carlos Marmol of all people with the bases loaded). Either way, Caminero was doing just fine and he ended up wasting a couple of relievers for no real reason, imo. He overmanaged.

I didn't mind him as much last year probably because the team sucked and had no hope. The team is a bit better this year though so it's more apparent. We also have a bunch of platoon players on the team, but he's ignored splits plenty of times already. It's pretty annoying how this organization seems to completely ignore the #'s sometimes.

I've had just about enough of him. He is a terrible manager. Not that someone else is going to make this team win, but it'd be nice to see the right moves made for a change.

What do you expect him to do? This team is just not good. We're going to be at the bottom of the NL again, and that's not going to change until these players develop.

I really liked Edwin Rodriguez.

Edwin got fired ("resigned") because the offense got incredibly, incredibly incredibly cold in a 20 game stretch in June. If I'm not mistaken I think the team was in fairly good position, then went 1-19 to start off the season, with pressure from Loria and the front office forcing him to step down.

Edwin was great handling the players, great handling the bullpen, and showed incredible fire that really lit an ass under the team. You could tell in that June dry spell that the fire was gone, and he was burnt out from all the pressure he was likely dealing with.

I love Edwin, and he's personally one of my three or four favorite managers the Marlins have ever had, but I'm not exactly sure he was ready to take on the manager role. I'm not saying he wasn't ready from an ability standpoint, but he probably needed to build up a better resume as a minor league manager so that he would've been able to take the brunt of the punishment he dealt with during the horrible June we had.

Not to say Redmond had any experience advantage when given the job last year. We all knew back then and still know right now that he was given the job because he is willing to consent to Loria and the front office's will whenever necessary. He's a good players manager, as I'm sure all the guys on the team respect and like him. I'm sure he gives good instructions and is a great teacher to the young players especially.

But as an in game manager, he is truly awful. Still, this is year 2 of his managerial experience, and in my opinion this is the first season he's actually had major league caliber talent to work with. Once he starts managing the bullpen better, stops bunting guys at the stupidest times, doesn't put on shifts at the worst times, platoons guys properly and grows some balls to take some real chances, he'll be a good manager. I'm willing to be patient with him, just as I was willing to give every manager we've ever had a chance. But if he starts going all Fredi on us long term, I and everybody here am going to turn on him.

I feel like he's one of those "feel for the game" type managers in the sense that since he played, he thinks he has a sense for what's best when in reality stats show he's completely wrong.
