DTrain
This has been a ridiculous season weather wise. Rainforest like. I can't wait to move to California (anywhere but South Florida) when the time is right. Has the roof been open more than 5 times all season? Bret Hart
According to game note, in this season Marlins has had 9-game starts with roof opened.
DTrain
Thanks,Bret. So we won't hit double digits out of 81 games. That's pretty sad. Almost (or does) make it not worth having a retractable roof. I wonder how much more the retractable aspect of Marlins Park cost? $30-$40 million? SongInTheAir
I went on a stadium tour on Friday and the roof was open (no game that day). It was absolutely disgusting at field level, it felt like I was in a grassy sauna. I don't know how our guys used to play 81 games in wet hell at Dolphsharkplayrobbie Stadipark. The retractable roof was more for the "entertainment" uses. Such as concerts, fireworks, ect. I like the roof closed especially with the bipolar weather we have, not to mention how hot it is. Wild Card
Usually they will do a few games with it open as it cools down a bit this month. But from May-Aug you can almost certainly bet on the roof being closed (and it should be).

fanofthefish
Its Florida!! Its supposed to be hot! (says the 5th generation native) If you had the right seat at Joe Robbie it wasn't bad at all (there was no one stopping you from getting there either), baseball IMO should be played outside, so if its not raining crack that mother open! Yeah, all the way up top right under the jumbotron. It's where I spent opening day with Bobby Abreus family once. And no- I don't know them personally- they were sitting in my seats. Wild Card
Yeah like in a fucking skybox, and people were stopping me from getting there. Really? Security at Marlins games was the worst in my experience. I once snuck down to the field level box off third base, then went down into the private tunnel entrance, then walked around the entire stadium through the tunnel and wasn't stopped. Two of my best friends walked from the Power Alley to an empty skybox in CFish, walked in and started drinking from the beer tap that was actually functioning... Then went back like 3-4 times the same summer with no problem. Lol

Wild Card
Sounds like the statue of limitations hasn't run out yet. Someone notify Samson. Lol. The only reason they even had the idea is because they were only 18 at the time and couldn't buy beer. So they walked around the club level to see if they could beat the system and surprisingly they did.

Almost (or does) make it not worth having a retractable roof. I wonder how much more the retractable aspect of Marlins Park cost? $30-$40 million? I wouldn't say the weather here means we shouldn't have a retractable roof. Even though its almost always closed, to force baseball to be played indoors seems awful to me. I can't stand the entirely enclosed feeling of places like Tropicana Field and the Metrodome. Also, as far as Sun Life, when bearing the heat I used to always convince myself that if those guys on the field can play in a sport in that crap heat, then I can sit on my butt in that crap heat. Its a flawed logic but I always felt like I had the lesser of the two evils so I would brace the heat for my team.
SongInTheAir
You guys are forgetting about having real grass. Yeah, full non retractable roof means bullshit turf or turfgrass or whatever non-actual-grass Rogers Centre and Tropicaca Field have. While it may seem pointless to have a retractable roof when it is rarely open, it allows for the field to be exposed to the sun. Also, I assume Marlins Park is used throughout the year for other events, and the roof can be open in the "winter" in Miami.

DTrain
Having real grass instead of turf is a very legit reason for the retractable roof. As long as everyone (tax payers/tourists) realize that we paid an extra $50-$75 million or so for 9 games with the roof open out of 81 per year and real grass. Again, not saying it's not worth it but.......we all pay for it and: Jeffrey Loria gets richer while we prepare for Miguel Cabrera Episode II (when Stanton is dealt). SongInTheAir
We only paid for it if we stayed at hotels in Miami. If not, tourists paid for it. I hate how uncommon this knowledge is. No, you didn't pay for it, moron who "lives in the area." No, you didn't pay for it, moron who "can't believe they tore down that Orange Stadium" No, you didn't pay for it, moron who "used to go see the Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl right up until the year they tore it down"
DTrain
Calm down, songsintheair. I understand it completely. I stay in a hotel in Miami at least 6 times a year. Anyone who buys Marlins tickets, eats food while you're there (see where I'm going with this) pays to support an owner who is about to take a big, hot steaming shit all over his fans. Again. I AM PERFECTLY CALM DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN. Haha, I'm not actually worked up, I was just remembering one of my wife's cousins who was "soooper pisst" about the Orange Bowl being torn down, regardless of the fact that she'd never been to a game there in her life.
