FreshFish
Now that Pudge, Enc, and Lee are gone. There is a HUGE downgrade on offensive speed, compared to what is going to be left behind. How is that going to affect run scoring? I don't know what Choi can do in that department (my guess is not too good), but we know Cabs is not speedster, and Ramon/Red can't run to save their lives. In addition, we know what Conine, Lowell, Agon bring to the table. This is concerning
EricWiener
Encarnacion may have had speed but you could never prove it to me. Our team will do just fine in the speed department. Cabs is a very good baserunner, as is Gonzalez. Lee to Choi is the only real downgrade in baserunning.

Libelula
I'm not really that concerned with the speed. We still have two of the fastest guys in the majors and everyone is a good base runner.
Flag Man
One of my favorite moments, two years ago (?)... Redmond on first, long drive to the outfield, Red chugs around the bases and ACTUALLY, LITERALLY FLOPS ON HOME PLATE. Bench went nuts, so did the fans. Than again how many times has he even tried to steal?

Guest markotsay7
They may not have speed, but Gonzalez, Conine, and Cabrera are EXCELLENT baserunners. You don't need speed to be a good baserunner.

Being a good base runner is one thing, but speed is important.
Guest markotsay7
I'm not discounting speed. I also didn't say that Redmond was a good baserunner. Castro isn't either. Catcher is a downgrade as far as baserunning skills, and we'll have to wait and see about 1B.
jonnylons
Good baserunning is not about speed. And what Lee and Enc brought in speed, they gave away in situational hitting. Failing countless times in quality outs - advancing the runner. That is all we need to be successful - have guys advance the runner and continue to do so. JP and Luis are supposed to get on base. Everyone else just has to advance the runner. That is all. We will score runs. This really is a non issue. I would venture to say Conine/Choi could be at LEAST as good offensively as Lee. But I am willing to bet better because Conine is a monster with 2 outs and is a quality hitter. Choi I think could be very good for this team...but time will tell. Enc is replaced by Cabs. No comparison. Conine, of course, plays LF. But still all of this is up in the air, our team isnt set yet. And remember, how all the pundits stressed speed doesnt win championships...well, they are wrong to a point. Speed can help, but it isnt an absolute. We have plenty of speed and good baserunners. TSwift25
Pierre Castillo are back, right now that's enough for me. We got slower, sure, but a lot of those SB's were from Torborg's running wild mentality, we did just fine and really the only base stealing threats we had going in the postseason that ran a lot were the big 2 and Encarnacion.
