Guest marlins02
Wannstedt to Nebraska? Coach dismisses report By Alex Marvez Staff Writer Posted December 9 2003, 10:45 AM EST Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt denied an Internet report Monday that said he was being considered for the University of Nebraska's head coaching job. ESPN.com reported that Wannstedt was among several current and former NFL head coaches contacted by Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson following the recent firing of Frank Solich. The report, which didn't specify whether contact was made directly or through intermediaries, said Pederson couldn't wait until the end of the NFL season to see whether Wannstedt would be available. Commenting through team spokesman Harvey Greene, Wannstedt said that he has not spoken to Pederson. A Dolphins source said team executives had not received a courtesy call from Pederson asking for permission to speak with Wannstedt or any other member of the team's coaching staff. "My focus is solely on beating the Eagles," Wannstedt said in a statement released by the team. "[Nebraska]is not even on the radar screen." Wannstedt's contract runs through the 2004 season, but his job security would be in jeopardy if the Dolphins (8-5) fail to reach the playoffs for a second consecutive season. Wannstedt has a friendship with Pederson built through their connections at the University of Pittsburgh. Wannstedt also declined a 10-year, $17.5 million contract offer from the University of Miami in 2001 before the Hurricanes hired Admin Coker. On Fox's pregame show Sunday, ex-Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson said he knew of four NFL coaches contacted by Nebraska about replacing Solich. The Omaha World-Herald speculated two of them were Dolphins offensive coordinator Norv Turner and Cleveland's Butch Davis.? i wouldnt mind the Wannstedt era ending. it makes sense also, things arent going well for him or the team, he could leave for a fresh start and go into college coaching http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-wan...la-sports-front
