Why send scouts when the next day's newspaper will have a box score with their ERAs and Win/Loss records?

(Also, no way we have enough to pick up either guy, right? Unless we take Billy Butler's albatross contract?)

This is great.

We probably have enough to acquire Rich Hill. He's old and doesn't have much of a track record with the exception of this last year.

Rich Hill might be something we can get, but my guess is he ends up in Boston who wants him back and has the prospects to do so. Sonny Gray is going to command a kings' ransom.

Josh Naylor may not be long for this organization

Would the A's really take a stab at Naylor??

I don't want Rich Hill because I'll get him and Mike Hill mixed up.

Why no one liked this?

Sounds about right.

Why does Billy Butler have guaranteed money (10 mil?!) next year?? Oakland of all teams.. weird

would anyone here be cut-up about losing him?

I see what you did there

No one wants Naylor especially the As. No way in hell we get either

Rich Hill is a gettable half-year rental. We have enough pieces to get him. A guy like him or Bud Norris should have been our priority over Rodney, and if we wanted someone beyond this year we should have sweetened the deal with Paddack and added Pomeranz instead. I'd be very happy to add Hill at this point.

Boston will over pay for him. That Butler signing was horrendous for the A's.

Watch Marlins trade Ozuna for Sonny Gray. That would be soooo Marlins!

I feel like the A's are loving the idea of Dee Gordon. Just hope if a deal is done, it's for sonny gray not Hill

Gray is having a really bad year, so A's would be selling low on him most likely. Maybe see if he could be had for less.

His value has lowered because of his play this year, but almost evens out when you compare him to the market as well as the contract. I truly see us having to trade Dee to get him. And that's the only guy I would consider making that kind of deal for

Yeah but it's a small sample size, especially considering how awesome he was in 2014 and 2015. Plus, as marlins_09 just said, he is making nothing right now and he is only 26 years old.

The Athletics can still get a decent haul for him.

I can't really agree with it being a "small sample size" anymore, being that the all-star break is in three days. It's 90 2/3 innings of crap.

I will agree, yes, the age and lack of an expensive contract makes him more valuable, but he's definitely in a "buy low" situation right now. Nobody wants to pay a premium for a guy with an ERA over 5 and a FIP of 4.50.

Gray > Norris and we couldn't even of matched what the doyers gave up for Norris

If that's not a small sample size, then 2014+2015 are huge sample sizes. Those 2 years is success didn't happen on accident. In these situations you have to determine which is the anomaly, 2014+2015 or this year pre all star break (which he has improved in his last 7 starts to a 4.01 era). He didn't just become a bad pitcher, sometimes guys just have off years. I'll still take Gray over anyone in our rotation for remainder of his contract not named Jose.

Dee has played his last game in a Marlins uniform. He will be traded for a SP and he damn sure was enough to get a bud norris deal in motion. Just glad they didn't.

that $50m contract seriously negates Dee's trade value
