pollythewog
$8m for Dickey means the marlins aren't getting any pitcher of significance

CyggyMarlin
42 year old pitcher. pass. I am prepared for the Marlins to not spend on anything....gotta maximize the profit of that All-Star game...who cares if they aren't making playoffs without a rotation
pollythewog
As if we didn't already know that. Incoming "We are happy and have confidence in the core of young talent." there is a contingent ( @Admin ) who thinks ( @Admin) the marlins might actually make ( @Admin) some meaningful moves. But if Dickey is that much then Lolz. Watch it be cashner after all

Admin
We will see them make moves, but they will be we did something to do something moves. Admin will call them out when they do so. Don't I always?
dim
Not surprising Marlins didn't go for Dickey. I mentioned him but he was a bit more down on the list of guys for the Marlins to go after. It seems the Marlins want some pitchers with a bit more long term viability as opposed to a real 1 year guy, which is what Dickey would be. Admin
Let's remember @Admin needs to be an optimist or else he will realize he will never get laid. @pollyvonwog You all care about that a lot more than I do
pollythewog
A team just doesn't magically go from the historical norm of "trading carter capps for $2m to pretend they made an actual move" to actual FA contender magically from one season to the next
el_gmac
who thinks( @Admin ) who thinks ( @Admin) the marlins might actually make ( @Admin) is a Dickey is that much Dickey a Dickey Sorry But his how I read it
Bret Hart
Just low risk and high reward deal. As a knuckleballer, Braves thought Dickey will find own groove at NL east division again.

As a knuckleballer, Braves thought Dickey will find own groove at NL east division again. the marlins FO still thinks this is the 2002 baseball world and hence can't fathom spending $8m for one year on a pitcher with an era that high (their only factor when acquiring pitchers)
pikapal4ever
Just low risk and high reward deal. As a knuckleballer, Braves thought Dickey will find own groove at NL east division again. It's actually low risk/low reward. The Braves aren't using him necessarily because he'll succeed in the NL East, they are using him as a stopgap to some of their young arms in their farm system that can come up this year (Fried, Weigel, Newcomb). He might also be a slight improvement over Wisler or Blair at the moment. Then, at the trade deadline, they trade him to a contender for something of value. They've been doing this with pitchers and hitters to build the depth of their farm, and this continues the trend. The Marlins example is when they traded them Jeff Franceour in the three team trade that also included the rangers for Dylan Moore and Matt Foley.
