marlins_09
If you're trying to get rid of $295 million in salary taking back one player that you can flip elsewhere for other prospects is a small price to pay . Not when you pay the price of not getting any elite level prospects back and then have to negotiate a further deal with no leverage.
marlins_09
It's kind of weird how there hasn't even been any speculation on what prospects would be coming back to the Marlins. We aren't getting any per Ken Rosenthal "You have the Captain, what else do you want?" Jeter agreed. Pending physicals
Valid
My guess is Clint Frazier has to be included in this.
The_Punisher
This Yanks deal is far from done, multiple reports showing Dodgers have emerged and are offering the Marlins any prospect in the organization not named Walker Buehler. sgleason02
Its not the Stanton deal that’s hamstrung the organization. It’s the likes of the Chen deal, the Prado deal, and the Vólquez deal. This is Loria’s mess, but the Stanton deal was not the problem. I’m waiting for the day, when Miami finally gets that one superstar that actually wants to be in Miami. Personally, I think the new ownership group could have saved face by holding onto Stanton, and trading the likes of Ozuna/Yelich/Realmuto to receive some legit prospects. With the rate that young talent is ascending to the majors and impacting the game these days, I think that would have been the quicker route to competitiveness. Potentially to the point where we were competitive enough to convince Stanton not to opt out. If he did decide to opt out, then it’s him turning his back on the city, and he becomes the bad guy. Not the new ownership group.

Not the new ownership group. Stanton didnt want to be a part of a rebuild. THAT WAS the original plan.

Admin
Stanton didnt want to be a part of a rebuild. THAT WAS the original plan. That's purely speculative, it may never have been the plan. He said he didn't want to be part of a rebuild before they even started doing anything. FloridaMarlinsForever
Oh geez. You can be number 1 on my list of people dumb enough to believe Jeter is a spy for the Yankees. Admin
Well, he has done nothing to prove my feelings to be wrong. He agreed to trades with both San Fran and St Louis before the Yanks. Stanton vetoed those deals and listed the Yanks as one of 4 clubs he preferred.
SilverBullet
Well, he has done nothing to prove my feelings to be wrong. Besides all the other facts that show him working on Stanton deals with other teams, how about the fact that all the people involved are adults. That's some stupidity to think Jeter and Cashman are playing elementary school level games with real life major league teams and with millions of dollars at play on both sides. Did they plan this secret deal in Cashman's tree house over some Capri Suns? Grow up.
