Do the Marlins even have an analytics department right now? I know Jason Pare left to work with the Braves.

The Marlins analytics department flow chart:

1. Is man baseball player? Yes > go to Q2  No > do not trade for

2. Is man expensive contract? Yes > do not trade for No > go to Q3

3. Is man fast? Or is man pitch fast? Yes > acquire immediately No > hang up phone and eat pudding cup

there's no way this team isnt using analytics at all.  i find that hard to believe any team in baseball in 2017 doesnt look at analytics at all.

They weren't looking at them at all up until like 2015 or so, for what it's worth.

So alcantara is our #1 guy , Guzman #2 and Rogers # 3. Do we have a solid farm now ?

probably more middle of the pack right now.  we started with absolutely nothing prior to this past years draft.  have added 7 out of our top 11 prospects since this past years draft.

I highly doubt they are as high as #15 overall now. Probably still in the bottom half. Despite what MLB.com says I would rank Garret and Rogers over both of those guys too. At least at the moment. The farm system is still not very strong IMO.

Prospect rankings are overrated and not that useful anyways. Only people like fish20 place a lot of stock in them.

They do, they lost Pare but the others are still there doing their thing. It seems like less of a department though and more like a few guys crunch some numbers and Mike Hill asks them for advice from time to time. It's actually a lot like Jonah Hill's role in Moneyball.

Whoa we are ways away from middle of the pack...We got 2 pitchers that throw in  triple digits and a few other low level minor leaguers that are 3 or 4 years away that is far from any type of organizational depth and the quality is only slightly improved...Not one of these pitchers makes  scouts drool!

The knife keeps getting twisted when you listen to all of the commentators on the baseball network who, almost to a consensus, agree that for two years of control for someone with Ozuna's numbers , the Marlins should have received a lot more and they did.

Glad all those people were there listening to every conversation between the Marlins and the Cardinals.

If he had a good first half which is not as likely as some may think, remember he'd be in a weakened lineup and would likely see less to hit. His value was damn high right now.

Maybe, maybe not.  I think with Ozuna they could have held out more until they got something more impressive.  This also makes the team weaker in other trade negotiations if they want to ship off someone like Yelich.  Teams will play hardball knowing that the Marlins are bad negotiators.  Dont expect other teams to offer high prospects for anyone now.

Fair point but did we cash in on than that "damn high value"? The return is very uninspiring.

They should just hire Jonah Hill
