Rumor: Yankees to trade Stanton after 2018 to sign Harper?

Sounded like total stupidity at first but when you hear that it would be a trade to the Dodgers then it makes more sense... Yankees *didn't really* want G at first, the opportunity just fell in their laps because the Dodgers weren't prepared to take on Stanton's contract yet. A year from now, the Yankees may covet Harper while the Dodgers may be ready for Stanton and of course the only team Stanton would waive his NTC clause for now would obviously be the Dodgers. It's crazy to think of Stanton as a one year rental but the stars might align perfectly for all 4 parties, Yankees Dodgers Stanton and Harper too...

Thoughts?

This is very interesting. But if the Yankees do in fact go after Harper aren't they going back to having multiple players locking down their payroll? I mean it is the Yankees but they have been wanting to not get so close or exceed the luxury tax.

If Harper has another big year, you are looking at a 35-$40 million dollar a year contract from what many have speculated.

If Stanton has another monster year the Yankees aren't going to trade him.  On the other hand if he has a down year the Dodgers aren't going to take on that contract or give up quality propects.

Also, in the case that he has another monster year, wouldnt his contract set a precedent for that kind of performance?

Too many factors involved for this to happen in my opinion.

it'll be backloaded. his first few years will be at a nice, comfortable, budget price of like $26m/year

they're the fucking yankees. they'll have stanton and harper.

Depends on how badly they want Harper. G could have a monster year and the Yankees trade him to the Dodgers for a solid return and still go and get Harper.

Yes, but if he has another monster year wouldn't Stanton have to be considered the better player at a better price?
