Here’s the other thing about Chen.  He’s got two more years guaranteed. Cutting him is a massive hit.  There’s also a third year which could vest if he pitches 180 innings in 2020 or 360 combined in 2019 -2020.  Maybe the play is to begin this year with him as a starter.  If he turns it around see if there is a market for him (unlikely).  If he doesn’t turn it around then relegate him to the pen the rest of the year.   If that doesn’t work out then eat the last year.  Not sure how that vesting year would be treated if he is cut now vs after the season.  Anyone ?

He'd literally have to be a top 5 pitcher in MLB in the first half in order for someone to trade for him at the deadline - he's been that shitty and suspect.  They need to just pay him off so he stops wasting a space on a roster that he clearly has no business being on. If someone is willing to take on even half his salary at the deadline they need to move him.  He just doesn't offer anything to the rebuild in any way.

The ideal strategy for clinging to your 5000 remaining diehard fans is:

keep sending your derp derp lefty who makes a lot of moniez out to start games.

Does he still say he needs an extra long time to warm up if he comes out of the pen?  "Hey, Chen, get ready to pitch next inning" "OK, give me an hour".

I agree.  I’m just laying out the logical decision tree.  I’m in no way expecting him to be good
