Long Lost Unofficial Florida Marlins Jersey?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know anything about this jersey which seems to be almost something unofficial or for minor league use? It pops up in baseball cards in 1994 and what looks like spring training backfield practice games around 2003-04 but I can't find any evidence of this ever being used by the major league team...

I think it looks good.  But that "properly" centered F logo looks terrible on that hat.  They centered the overall center of the F+fish on the hat, and not aligned with the middle of the F, and it looks bizarre.

Yea this is one of the two inaccurate changes made on the newer versions of those caps but i think they're both improvements. The 2nd change is adding a white outline to the teal cap. In the 90s only the black cap had the white outline.

From what I remember after the teal BP jersey they went to the black one with a white wordmark with a silver outline. I don't remember a teal wordmark in between.

Yeah here's proof... 2002 spring training with Tim Raines in teal, 2003 ST with Pudge in black/white...

Odd quirk there... looks like the new 2003 road pants weren't ready for 03 spring training as Pudge is wearing the 1993-2002 road pants with the teal stripe.

I know it exists, that's why I made this thread. I'm saying I don't remember it ever being an official MLB Florida Marlins jersey. Judging by the evidence it was a minor league practice jersey likely used by minor leaguers on backfields during spring training.

Yeah probably, I think I just liked it in the store and bought it.

  • 1 month later...

Big league club wore them in the early 2000s as Road BP jerseys before the white wordmark and piping BP jerseys came out in '03.

I bought mine off eBay in the estate sale of the Marlins' former seamstress over 10 years ago.  Included were letters, number and nameplate of my choice (of course I selected Dawson, 8).

The Jersey itself has the MLB logo patch on the back collar (which according to Wikipedia was added in 2000) and the Majestic "Authentic" label on the shirt tail as opposed to the "Diamond Collection" label from the 90's.

You are correct, it got its start in the mid 90s as short season A and extended minor league ST road jerseys.  You'll notice the vast majority of the pictures of players wearing them are 1) wearing the all teal hat in a reverse of the normal st combo and 2) wearing road pants.
