Puig recently did an interview with Jorge Ebro of El Nuevo Herald, during which he acknowledged that the Miami Marlins were one of several teams to make him offers. Puig rejected Miami's advances, in part because he wanted a bigger contract -- especially if it meant playing in front of a Cuban-heavy audience, who, he felt, might have unrealistic expectations for him.

so he wants to be paid MORE to play for Miami. The exact opposite of the whole "hey, he might take less to play here because of ....."

Also, already admitting that basically he's not going to try and take an opportunity to rise to the occasion to play in front of a people who would embrace him (and demand more money as a result) tells you everything you need to know about him as an individual.

Yea this. The opposite of a hometown discount, what an idiot. "I would love to play in Miami so much that I would need even more money to play there?" Fuck off.

Not only that, him getting a bigger contract would cause people to have HIGHER expectations of him.
