Michael 2,446
[Quick note - lots of controversy around this one! I'll type up more later.] Not sure how many people care about the sport of Strongman here, but on May 2nd at noon Eastern, airing live on ESPN and a few other outlets, 2018 World's Strongest Man and multiple time Arnold Strongman Classic winner and also Game of Thrones' Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, is going to attempt to set the world record in the deadlift. The current record is held by Eddie Hall at an even 500 kilograms (or 1,102.3 pounds). This took place in 2016 and when Hall did it, he jumped the record by a full 37 kilos (81.6 pounds). Hafthor is going to attempt 501 kilos, so just a 2.2 pound increase on the record for now. However, he did state live on his Twitch TV channel that if he gets 200,000 followers on his Twitch channel before May 2nd, then after he attempts 501 kg, if he is successful, then he will attempt 520 kilos. Which is just ... mind boggling. Here he is lifting 470 kilos yesterday (4/20).
