MLB seeks to increase DL, option time

Recommended Posts

Quote

the league now wants to move it back to 15 after watching teams game the system, particularly in rotating middle relievers and back-end starters. Major League Baseball also wants to require players who are optioned to the minor leagues to remain there for 15 days, rather than the current 10

Stupid waste of time and resources to do this... teams are still gonna find a way to manipulate things. Stop tinkering with every little detail. And who changed the DL time to 10 days anyways? Probably same people who want it changed back?

10 day DL is great for position players, but it can definitely be used to manipulate the 25-man roster with pitchers. MLB should (if they insist on changing it) make it a 10-day DL for position players, but a 15-day DL for pitchers.

Stop thinking outside the box with good solutions.

I agree with SITA here, maybe even make it 20 days for pitchers. 10 days for position players is fine. I remember many times where, with the 15 day DL as the shortest option, some players would have an injury that wasn't big enough to DL them for 15 days but bad enough to have them sit out and be unavailable for a week, which really hampers the team overall. 10 is great!

Ya this is being considered because of the outright manipulation of the rules both with DL and options regarding pitchers allowing teams to effectively have 27 man rosters often times.

Basically violating the spirit of this move to the 10 day DL which was to protect players and allow teams to not have to play a man down for an injury that was a week long.
