Jordan Milbrath, RHP, 0.3 KATOH — The team’s Rule 5 pick, Milbrath is a 26-year-old, sinker/slider reliever who lowered his arm slot this year. He sits 93-96 and his short little slider is below average in a vacuum but plays up due to his slot. He’s likely a righty specialist.

So a Mike Hill guy basically.

Mike Hill: "So we're happy to trade Wittgren to you. What are you willing to give in return?"

Mike Chernoff, Indians GM: "We looked and analyzed carefully, and for Nick Wittgren, we feel it's only fair to give you Milb--"

Hill: "MILLER?! DONE DEAL, SIGNING IT RIGHT NOW!"

Chernoff: "... I was going to say Milbra--"

Hill: "DONE. DEAL. NO TAKE-BACKS!"

Chernoff: "........... alright, done deal."

Because no one else has brought it up. Was wittgren out of minor league options ? Could it have been one of those types of trades ?

Possibly but odds are he would be on the big league team or at least have a good chance in ST. Still a dumb DFA at this point and time.

Wayyyy too early to make cuts based on minor league options especially when Wittgren had a real chance at making the team. If he was out of options and wasn't gonna make the team you try and trade him at the end of spring, but u at least give him the chance to win a spot first.

And yes, for the record, I hate this move.

Absolutely feels like a miscalculation though. I can't believe they thought Wittgren was the best guy to DFA. There has to have been something in the works that fell through. Not that that makes this better but it's the only explanation I can believe here as to how this happened.

Because they had signed Neil Walker and needed the roster space.

Thanks; it makes sense they needed to DFA someone to make roster space. It begs the question, though — why not just DFA Galloway? ?

Marlins picked up Brice and announced it at the same time to create impression that they got two players in the trade.  Frisaro’s headlines support that misinformation campaign.
