Lewis Brinson: CPOY?

Recommended Posts

After a rough start to the year, Brinson has really turned it on. He is slashing .313/.333/.656 in the last 32 AB's and .286/.333.786 in his last 14 AB's. He has a .238/.294/.429 overall in 63 AB's.

He probably won't get enough AB's or attention the win Comeback Player of the Year in the NL, but he is certainly the Marlins best candidate so far. Who else in the league is a good candidate for the award?

It's an award you hate to be considered for, but love to win. I think Lew deserves it. Not sure who else might even be close.

"to the player who is judged to have "re-emerged on the baseball field during a given season"

I always thought to win this award you needed to have had success in MLB, then had a bad year and then returned to success. I don't know if you can win it for having your first good year.

What is he coming back from?

Brad Boxberger has a better chance to win the award.

I believe players with down years are just as eligible for the award, but to be fair ... he's not had an "up" year to compare that to yet.

So ... no. No CPOY for Brinson.

If Stanton would have been healthy all year, he probably would have had a great shot at winning.

Last year Jesus Aguilar hit .236/12 HRs/50 RBI in 131 games.

If his bat wakes up in these last couple of weeks and he finishes the year around .300-.310 with 8-10 HRs and 40+ RBIs, he probably would at least be mentioned in the discussion.

Aguilar has a chance.
