He was sitting mid 90s previously so if he's getting that back, he becomes much better. When his fastball was sitting 90 ... eh.

Part of the reason that I did not initially include him in the 5th starter battle is that I haven't been impressed. I don't think he will make the club unless there are injuries. Trevor Rogers, skipping Triple-A during a global pandemic, posted an 82 xFIP- (3.67 xFIP) across his first 7 starts. That's insanely good, y'all. If this team didn't have Sixto, Pablo, and Sandy, everyone would be hashtag Talkin' Trev'. Which is crazy because the guy I didn't mention here -- Elieser -- had an 80 xFIP- (3.54 xFIP) in 2020. In the words of Mrs. Ng: Can you hear me smiling?!

SilverBullet 2,962
Fyi all this pitching depth is also a reminder why it was ok to trade away Gallen, Caleb, and Trevor Richards. Even if Caleb and Trevor turn out to be as good as Gallen, there's literally no spot for them now so turning them into Jazz, Marte, and Sanchez is the right move. You can't keep every great player.

We might even have more arms to deal if we so choose. Niedert, Garrett, Elieser and Castano come to mind. Not saying those players should be sent to Alcatraz, just pointing out how much depth we have right now. I’m not a fan of trading Lopez, just for the record.

IDK if you're doing it on purpose but please don't put all the extra spaces at the bottom of your posts. Takes up more space and if I quote it with a longer reply like I'm doing here, it'll make it harder to get back to the points I was reading. 🥺 If you're not doing it then no worries, we'll see what we can do on our end. 2. Now to the post at hand. I can definitely see Elieser being a deadline type deal especially if he's having a fairly strong season and someone like Meyer or Cabrera is ready to go come July 31st. If Elieser's change-up has improved that much, as I've stated so many times, it immediately adds an entire inning to his outings. Neidert, if he is really sitting 94 now, just became that much more valuable. Same with Garrett if he's back in the mid 90s rather than low 90s. Not sure who might want Castano, the only thing he's done even a fraction above average was miss barrels, but again, who knows! Maybe that final outing against the Yankees on closing day was enough to convince some teams he's worth something to them. I still say the right time to trade Pablo was in the off-season, but I'm more than fine keeping him around. His Baseball Savant page has a loooot of red (which is good!). He made some huge improvements between 2019 and 2020, so again, totally fine keeping him here. Especially since we'll need guys to get to at least 160 innings.

I’m guessing it has to do with the quote feature. No fault of its own. All fair points. We have a the luxury to be patient as well with these guys with a manageable payroll and with all the competition. That’s why I prefer to hold up on Lopez. He gives us breathing room for the youngsters to develop.
