Playoffs? .500? I'll Eat a Marlin if the Marlins Finish at .500.

Recommended Posts

Marlins finish this season at .500 would be interesting.

As bad as the NL East has been... maybe?

But probably not great for long term development of the organization.

Besides not getting Torkelson or a top five prospect, why would that hurt the long term development? What if four or five of the draft picks this week hit and are ready to go in late 2020, 2021?

I'd be shocked if that happened.

1. Having 4 to 5 draft picks hit in 2 years is beyond difficult.

2. You cant built all around organizational depth with really one good draft.

Finishing .500 doesnt do you any good.  It doesnt get you into the playoffs.  It doesnt do anything but sound warm and fuzzy and get you lower draft picks and lower draft pools monetarily.

Especially if you do it with an assortment of veterans around.  Thats even more useless long term.

I mean if you trade away veterans and kids come up and do it, thats fine in that respect.

But I think getting to .500 or maybe even going above it sets forth the winning attitude this team will need. Can still get a good player in the draft mid-way through first round and in later rounds.

I believe the meaning of "tanking" was to create a bad roster but still do the best to try to win every game, not creating a bad roster and intending to lose games, right ?

Some people get too negative when they lose and too positive when they win.

But "too positive" was always better than "too negative", right ?
