So yesterday New Era revealed a fashion cap for all 30 MLB teams based off "local markets." Basically they were the team cap bombarded by imagery (including food), text, and the area code(s) of the region that the team represented. They were so bad, both ugly and a little insulting in some cases, that they were pulled within hours. Here's the Marlins one: 305 and 786 area codes, a flamingo, a palm tree, oranges, the state of Florida, the 1997 World Series logo, and text reading Magic City...

The Rays caps were particularly weird, only including the area code and nickname for the city of Tampa and completely leaving out St. Petersburg...

Here's a few other examples of this tacky mess...

This is some of the dumbest shit I've seen yet from these apparel companies.

Are you telling me people in Arizona don't eat burritos every day?

The face on the Orioles hat looks like Hitler from far away.

I’ve said it and I’ll say it again....they gotta stop letting these 20 year olds in the marketing department design apparel. Baseball fans are the most “purist” of any sport when it comes to uniforms and all these gimmicks are insanely annoying.

Other weird quicks I've found...

The Royals cap has 5 area codes on them, apparently from the state of Kansas, but doesn't include the area code for Kansas City itself, which is in Missouri. They don't know where the Royals play?

Teams in the same state have almost identical imagery, so there's little to no difference between a Marlins and Rays cap, and the 5 California teams pretty much all have identical caps. Nice way to focus on your local communities, by making them all generic?

Pittsburgh apparently doesn't have an area code because the Pirates cap is the only one without an area code on it.

Cleveland is representing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... with an acoustic guitar.

The Toronto cap has a maple leaf on it... one inch away from the maple leaf that's already on the Blue Jays caps...

Houston's hat has the space shuttle which is actually a Florida thing.... and the Houston cowboy hat has a small badge on it, but it looks exactly like an asterisk!

Agreed but this one seems even worse than 20 year olds because there's zero aesthetic qualities to this... this is either 10 year olds or some really senile 90 year olds. It's just slapping on very poorly chosen imagery. Like that Toronto maple leaf thing, I don't know how that got approved by any coherent adult.

Lol you’re absolutely right. It’s more like they put in variable holders in the design and they let a computer populate it with the top ten google search results for that city.

"hey guys I found some cool free clip art. Let's toss it on these leftover hats and make a fortune"

So wear these hats to show people your area code !? don't forget to circle yours if have many on it …

What they do after pulling those failed works ? burn them !?

😂

Last week when we were discussing the Marlins new City connect uniforms, I was seriously going to make a joke and write “If the Marlins really wanted a uniform and hat representing the city they should have put some oranges, palm trees and alligators on it.” But at the end I didn’t post it because it seemed too absurd. Even for me. 😂

Now a few days later, I see that apparently a few other people had thought it was actually a good idea.

Pretty much yes.

Maybe Trump designed the Royals hat.

I mean the first words spoken from the moon was Houston...

But thats ok, Florida can make claim 'its actually a Florida thing'.

Ok buddy.

Those are real?   That’s absurd.

I got it from an Astros fan who says the space shuttle itself is a Florida thing, not a Houston thing. I know the connection with Houston and the space program but that doesn't mean the space shuttle is the best imagery to represent the Houston space program.

Edit: I just confirmed it, the space shuttle launches from Florida. They should have used a more generic satellite or an astronaut to represent Houston.

And the space shuttle's command center was in the Houston area.

What's your point?

The shuttle was used btw at times as the logo for the Johnson Space Center btw.

So its not like Florida has some copyright over the shuttle.  Hell its more a Houston thing than Miami thing so whatever.

Still just shows how fucking idiotic this concept was.

Why the hell would you put a maple leaf one inch from the maple leaf in the logo... They clearly were designed by people who know nothing about the cities they are supposed to represent.

1776 really is the best year to represent a city built in 1790...

I've already explained my point.

This is a perfect example of you arguing just to argue.

They apparently did the same shit for other sports, but I guess fewer people complained so they are still being sold.

So apparently Atlanta is known for UFOs and having more area codes than division titles.
