Forearm Tightness Ends Sandy's Comeback Attempt

Sandy Alcantara threw well on Thursday evening in Jacksonville, but it will be the last time he throws in the 2023 season.

Alcantara is headed back to Miami, but will not pitch for the team. Alcantara experienced forearm tightness following the rehab outing and will now be a spectator the rest of the way. Miami will need to try and reach the postseason for the first time since 2020, without the reigning Cy Young winner. While Miami has not officially commented on the injury yet, it is hard to imagine Alcantara would be available in the playoffs.

Jordan McPherson was the first to report the devastating blow to Miami with his post on X:

Without Alcantara, things will become even tougher for the Marlins. Miami has already been limiting the workload of Jesus Luzardo and Eury Perez in recent weeks and has made "bullpen games" a part of the starting rotation. Johnny Cueto could return to the rotation, after briefly being removed from it. The Marlins simply do not have many options on the current roster or in the minor leagues.

Miami will try and keep a hold on the third Wild Card spot when it hosts the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night at 6:40 p.m.

You know he won't and he'll tear it in his first start next season lol.

I know, some of you will point out it's dumb to get TJ surgery just for the sake of it but as Marlins fans we know how this will play out.

He 100% should get it and I'd imagine if he went to a specialist they'd tell him that. Do we know if he has seen a specialist as of yet?

I mean...if he needs Tom John Surgery, that's a complete reconstruction of the elbow ligament. At this point, would it be wild to just let him pitch and have the surgery the day after he earns a save in Game 4 of the World Series? I don't think it's the kind of injury that can get any worse, is it?

guess they could hold him in their back pocket for one appearance in the series.  Imagine that, his entrance music hits and we get our own Kirk Gibson moment.

This was my point earlier. That type of injury, that type of surgery, and the recovery time needed means it doesn't matter if he has the procedure done this weekend or a month from now so it would be fair to wait even a little bit longer.
