Latest On Marlins’ Managerial Search (mlbtraderumors.com)

There hasn’t been a lot of concrete information about the Marlins’ managerial search, but one formal candidate has now been identified, as Isaac Azout of Fish On First (X link) reports that Tigers bench coach George Lombard will interview about the position this week.

Azout also notes that the Marlins have some interest in speaking with Giants assistant coach Alyssa Nakken about the managerial role.  Nakken has been working with San Francisco for over a decade, and her five-year stint on the coaching staff began after Kapler was hired as the Giants’ manager prior to the 2020 season.  Her role on the staff bears some similarity to Lombard’s skillset, as Nakken’s duties also included outfield instruction and baserunning.

Where’s “somewhere”?

Doesn’t sound legit to me.

Someone over on twitter said it but i forgot who it was. It wasn’t one of the regular media personalities so take it with a very large grain of salt.

Cardinals Adding Jon Jay To Coaching Staff (mlbtraderumors.com)

Jon Jay is going to be on the Cardinals coaching staff, even though we apparently had interest in retaining him.

If nothing else, we may have had more “interest” in players than any other team. Might as well add our slogan to coaching choices.

Well, if you have “interest” in everyone, it looks like you tried, even if you didn’t really.

Why would he stay? He was part of Skip’s crew and fired with the rest of the coaching staff. Skip is gone and new manager will probably want to bring his own guys with him.

I don’t blame him.

It’s funny like lately for the past few years it seems like the Marlins coaching staff was filled with a lot of former Yankee organization and Cardinals organization “guys”.

How come we never see any “Marlins guys” on the coaching staff? I mean like a Dan Uggla as bench coach and Derek Lee as hitting coach and Isan Diaz as head janitor?

1) I don’t blame him for moving on.

2a) While a nice goal, I feel like most teams don’t have former players for that team on their coaching staff.

2b) Also, the former players have to want to coach - I don’t see Dan Uggla or Derek Lee coaching for any other team - maybe they just don’t have interest in coaching? Anibal Sanchez has supposedly shown interest in our manager job, maybe he’d be interested in being a pitching coach role.

Never heard of Clayton McCullough previously, but reading up on him seems like a legit candidate with other teams showing interest. Interesting that the White Sox are also considering him and Skip. Sox are a mess, ownership may be changing and then there is that matter of living in Chicago vs S. Florida.

Cleveland Guardians bench coach Craig Albernaz and Texas Rangers associate manager Will Venable have emerged as finalists for the Marlins managerial job, sources told The Miami Herald.

Hmm..

Craig Albernaz. Was a manager in the Rays minor league system while Bendix was there. He also was the bullpen and catching coach for all the seasons that Gabe Kapler was manager of the Giants.

Marlins are definitely picking the other guy for sure.

Just seems like a Marlins things to do.. they seem to not like the do the obvious choice.
