I’m sure trading Sandy to dump his salary for a 14 year old utility IF will help with that

It's an Athletic article, so for those that can't access it, the TLDR version is that the Marlins' payroll is low and about $20M below the required threshold, and are estimated to be getting $70M+ from revenue sharing. So Bruce is only directly shelling out what, 10-20M? lol....

The figure is technically based on end of season payroll, so they have til then to get closer/even with requirements, but who sees that happening??

It also called out Bruce/Bendix's excuses at their ST press conference of "spending" (on behind the scenes stuff).....

The problem is, the grievance process doesn't seem to have any teeth. They file a grievance, then nothing happens.....

The A's increasing their payroll was a requirement of the process of moving to Vegas.

The Marlins just get a slap on the hand and them saying "bad Marlins" with little else.

MLB and MLBPA need to hold Bruce's feet to the fire and make him spend or boot him out. It's BS and we get the same old excuses....."front office!" "infrastructure" "drafting and scouting" "facilities" blah blah blah.

As the article points out, they're far more likely to trade Sandy and lower payroll even more than take on more salary.

This. I don't even care about this grievance stuff anymore. It's nothing.

Yeah until there’s an actual punishment, the grievance means nothing

article was a fun read though - it really shit all over how cheap Sherman is! the only thing that annoyed me was that it literally said something like "it's not like they haven't signed FA's before and been burned by them"

what team hasn't been burned by a FA signing lol

I mean bringing up Chen from over a decade ago actually shows how few significant attempts at signing a FA the Marlins have had (and this had zilch to do with Sherman anyway)

Right. We’ve had some bad ones, but we play in the FA market so infrequently that the bad ones are the only ones lol

This is pretty much all on the owner. We have made significant improvements as the organization was 10 to 20 years behind the times with infrastructure, data analytics, player development etc. and we have to build a foundation before we built the house. We've done a good job of upgrading there but the results will take a long time to show and most fans, what's left, are very impatient.

I’d say the fans have been extremely patient. A big issue here is daddy dix and Sherman consistently lie or use mindless platitudes to say what they’re doing. If Bendix had been honest when he was hired that he was there to tear it all down I’d be a lot more patient. Bendix comes off so arrogant and obnoxious it’ very hard to like him especially when they’re intentionally putting a 100 loss team on the field this year

Hard to argue with that although it's a difficult pill to swallow to say hey we are going to suck for the next 2-3 years but then we will be really good. That's kind of non-optimal business strategy. I feel like they should admit it but won't or can't. That blame lies on Sherman. Bendix's hands are tied and his actions speak to what he is trying to accomplish. Agree he is not an eloquent speaker but if he can build a sustained winner I don't care how he sounds. Obviously, he's getting his marching orders from the owner and can't throw him under the bus.

They've been bragging about "significant improvements" for the last 7 years that they've owned the team......and here we are back at square one. it's BS.

I just found this....

Marlins Notes: Payroll, Practice Squad, Cabrera, Gillispie - MLB Trade Rumors

this MLBTR one covers some of what we talked about but this one is worse....

Marlins minor-league affiliate’s ad for practice squad pulled after MLB raises concerns - The Athletic

TLDR version....the Marlins put out an ad calling for former college and professional players to join the org's "practice squad" to play against Low-A players for a daily wage of $150. Seems like they're trying to skirt around CBA rules.

They pulled it down.

What a discrace........

Why did it take 5+ years to start that process? Either they fucked up the first 5-7 years and/or it’s BS, as @rmc523.

They’re trading Sandy for Justin Turner? At least he’s a marketable guy.
